Thats right!!!! $5 will get you a used car!!!!! Not $5 down, just $5!!!!!!! Used trucks for $500!!!

extra exclamation points to give the commercial effect to this post.

Local car dealership says they are selling used cars for $5 and used trucks for $500.
thats all they say, nothing else. WTF kind of scam is this? I think its safe to say you will end up spending more than $5 or $500. Do they end up jacking up some other part of the purchase to the price o the car or what?

i don't know. all they said was the price of the car and that it wasn't the down payment price. there was no fast talking lawyer type guy at the end with all the rules or anything.

edit: not that i need a new car, mine is only 2 years old. just curious as to what they actually do.

this is how it works:

buy a select car at MSRP and they will give you a base model car that cost them $9,000.

the car itself that you paid MSRP for they prob made $12,000+.

Yeah, I remember dealers last year doing this. Buy a new minivan at MSRP ($28k+) and get a free tiny car ($8k car).

Ironically enough, if you haggle, you could get the minivan for $15k and the tiny car for $7.5k and save about $6k in cash on the deal. Go figure.

That's right, cars for 5$! There were 2 cars for 5$, a 1995 Olds Cutlass with 274k miles on it, and a Geo Metro with 4 flat tires. ANd I'm sorry sir, those cars already sold, but since you're here, how would you like to look at this new car marked only 7k over invoice....

It's all a ploy to get you to come in.

They did this a few years back at a Chevy dealership here. It was only on used cars and I guess it wasn't too sucessful as I never heard of them doing it again, but maybe they still do and I haven't heard of it.

What they'd do is say, "Okay, we've got 20 used cars not priced but they'll be between $5 and $5000. We won't mark the price on them until 8 am but you have to be in the car you want before then. You can pick out a car at 12am." So basically you'd have to camp out in the car of your choice overnight for the CHANCE of it being $5. Of course they never said HOW MANY of the cars would be $5, so of course they'd only mark one down to $5, and it was the ****** car no one wanted. The rest would be $5000 with maybe one or two for $3000.

Nice little scam if you think about it.

$5 "acquisition fee" then you take over the payments from someone else?
