I said this in my billionaire thread, but if I was wealthy the very first thing I'll do is go to my old elementary school and give every kid a console killer gaming laptop.

Google says they are 500 students at the school so since it cost $1820 for a console killer gaming laptop, it should cost $910,000.

No idea what I'd do if I were a billionaire. I'd probably hire someone to get me interesting ideas. I wouldn't buy a single lame ass 'gaming laptop' for myself, or anyone else.

Part of the reason I want to start this charity is to get more people into video game design.

You can't make your own games with a cheap office laptop.
Is there a global shortage of kids going into game design?
As far as I can see there's too many of them, that's why they are treated as a commodity by the big game studios.

How many of those kids would just use the laptop to play games and not actually learn to develop games?

There used to be a charity called "One Laptop Per Child" and the charity was producing the lowest cost laptops ever made in history, even though it was the cheapest laptop many world leaders were saying that it was a waste of money and that poor kids don't need laptops, they need shelter, food and such.

I say that's nonsense, with a laptop they can Google how to make shelter and food and such.

A computer is essential for the 21st century. And laptops are much more portable than desktops.

OP needs to start a charity to give gaming laptops to poor people in Africa.

"You can be the change that helps provide a gaming experience to a child in need, we supply a core i7 with 64GB of ram, and a RTX 4090 and all you have to pay is $99 per month! Call the number on your screen now to help a child in need" *in the aaaaarrrms of an angel*

8 year old Sudanese kid "I've not eaten for days and there's a hostile force coming! Thank God for this gaming laptop that I can't charge! I shall Google"how to start subsistence farming and rudimentary shelter construction!" Or at least I would if there was any internet infrastructure!"

Fuze4 is for Switch. Stop saying shit you have no idea about.

I just found out that you can't even browse the Internet on the Nintendo Switch!

That is a deal breaker for me.

Those gaming laptops aren’t going to get you across town to your construction laborer job.

It has a browser, just take a bit of work to enable.

(I just wanted to talk about this some more)

Maybe not "everyone" needs a console-killer gaming laptop, but I think everyone needs at least a "budget" gaming laptop like the one below so they could do stuff like video editing.

Funny. I do fine with no laptop at all. I have a few oldies, but don't have a need for them, so they just sit around.

You don't need a gaming laptop to edit video, I've edited dozens of videos on my Asus Vivobook.

A laptop is one of those things I always kinda wanted but also didn't want to spend money on. Someone gave me one a while back, so I put Linux on it. I used it a few times to console into a switch and that's about it.

If I was looking at actually getting one that I plan to use as a daily I'd consider a Framework though, I really like what that company is doing as they are more modular and believe in right to repair.

My last one is a Thinkpad I found in the dumpster. C2D based. Everything works, but I have no need for it. Every so often I think about putting debian on it, but then it would just be sitting around with debian instead of Win7 :^D
