I wanted to make a gaming laptop charity for poor kids, and when I tell people this many people say that gaming laptops are "too expensive" for a charity, here is why I disagree.

The worlds cheapest new car is the Nissan Versa, which cost $17,190

The PS5Pro has a GPU that is said to be equivalent to the desktop RTX 4070, The laptop RTX 4080 is considered to be equivalent to the desktop RTX 4070

The cheapest laptop with a RTX 4080 that's fully in stock is the laptop below, which cost $1820

You can buy 9 of these laptops for the price of the cheapest car!

I want you to think back to every car you've ever seen in your life, every car you've seen on TV, in the street, etc.

Now multiply that by 9.....that's how many gaming laptops we could have!

There are already charities that hook people up with computers, and most states have a “welfare tier” of subsidized internet access for people.

Disadvantaged people don’t need gaming laptops, they need a roof over their head, a 20Mb/4Mb Xfinity connection for $20/mo., and a 4-5 year old off lease refurb PC with a word processor and Chrome so they can participate in society.

If you want people to game start a charity that gives people Switches.

With a gaming laptop you can make your own games or mods for a game, you can't with a Nintendo Switch.

For $1800, the cost of that gaming laptop, you could donate 9 cheap office laptops to get people access to jobs and help them connect with friends and families?

So, for the cost of a new Nissan Versa you could support 81 families or individuals instead of 9?

Part of the reason I want to start this charity is to get more people into video game design.

You can't make your own games with a cheap office laptop.

Not that they were good games, they're pretty bad actually, but I have completed 2 games and 0 mods. None of them were released to the general public and none of them are for sale. 1 in c++ and 1 in rpg maker. I have a few incomplete ones in rpgmaker. Neither were made using a gaming laptop, but both could be made with any modern office laptop.

You might be able to make your own games with a "Gaming Phone", but not a Nintendo Switch.

Are you able to use programs like unreal engine?

Are you saying games must all use Unreal Engine?
Pretty sure I wrote Mastermind in Pascal without using Unreal engine since Epic Games wasn't even around yet. Game engines make game development easier, it is not mandatory.

Oh and Versa is not the world's cheapest new car by a long shot.

Here is a EV cheaper than your Versa

Even cheaper cars

Also, you kind of need money to be charitable. You don't have enough blood to donate.

Hmm, when I googled "cheapest new car" it took me to usnews and the cheapest was the Nissan versa, some other sites said the same thing.

Also, I wanted the laptops to be a "Console Killer".

Performance that matches consoles.

I would say focus instead on refurbishing old desktops and parts, and teaching poor kids about computers, how to use, troubleshoot, fix and build them, and then they could make use of somewhat older parts, and by adding a decent GPU, could get themselves a basic gaming computer. They would also learn valuable life skills.

My first job I worked at a non profit that was kind of in this sense, but for us the computers were really old (even at the time) but we fixed them up and put Linux on them and donated them.

Laptops are portable!

Can you fit a desktop in a backpack?

Can you take it to school?

Can you take it to the library?

Can you take it to the park?

Can you use it on the bus?

Can you use it on a plane?
