Israel (well they'd be willing to take me for sure). Other than that, I was thinking about Brazil--I did study abroad in China this past summer and I saw how nice you get to live as an expat. Sure the locals might not have it that great, but if you are paying with USD, you can live pretty nice..I'm assuming I can keep collecting money from my company in USD 😛 Sao Paulo would have better weather, hot chicks, beach access, a booming financial sector and a fairly sizable Jewish population, all of which are majors for me. I don't think the government there would be too oppresive, and the tax rates are low..

Ireland, Sweden, Finland in order. All are of my ancestry, have amazing cultures and are just plain laid-back. That's what I need for reals. lol

Japan, I'd like to go to a culture completely different than the US's. More so East vs. West.
That and Japan has some of the best internet connections and some of the coolest tech stuff! Coupled with a rich and old culture.

Unfortunately there aren't any countries where the government and social climate (ie civil rights) match my own preferences.

Which are?

Somewhere between a Golden Age Athenian democracy, and revolutionary period American Republic. Basically a democracy or democratic republic ran by libertarians (meaning political libertarians, not pure capitalists looking for an excuse to power for corruption and greed).

Somewhere in the Andalucía region of Spain. Sunny, warm, and some of the most beautiful land I've ever seen.

United States of America. Funny how Americans want to expatriate, but most foreigners want to move here.

It is probably more to do with opportunities.

Freedom plays it's role too. In my (Florida) town, we have a high number of Retired European Immigrants and I hear it all too often that America has more freedom than XXXX place in my old country. We are still #1 when it comes to liberty, we invented and perfected the concept, all others are just poor imitations and shoddy spins on the original.

The Cook Islands have always had a certain draw for me. Nice tropical islands, decent weather most of the year, surrounded by warm ocean water that is teeming with life...a quiet relaxed way of life...Bora Bora is another place that I think I'd like...but it's god-awful expensive...

Great place, until a tsunami hits your shores.

Life isn't without its risks, no matter where you live...do you stay cooped up safe within the walls of your house 24/7 to avoid the possibility of a traffic accident, or a mugging, or any number of other things that could befall you?
Do you live somewhere that has earthquakes, hurricanes, or tornados?

There's always something that has its risks in life...

As long as you enjoy it.

😕

Everywhere has risks, including your precious Yankland, regardless of whether you enjoy it or not 😛

Personally, I've no desire to leave Perth and Australia.

Why? Great weather (one of the sunniest cities in the world), afternoon seabreezes moderate the worst heat of the summer, awesome beaches, still relatively relaxed and laid back, stable and effective Washminster system of government, friendly people in general, and it's amazingly easy to get away from the crowds 😀

There have be so many of these threads.

Its always agreed that Australia is the best.

This place is the shit. But we're full, so piss off. 😛

I don't agree with Dugg that Perth is the best though, and I live there too.

Israel - Great weather, americanized culture so won't be that hard to adjust, one of the most advanced hi-tech industries in the world, hot chicks, good food.

2nd runner up would be Sweden but that would only be to large amounts of testosterone right now... Helga!

I'm not interested in moving to a foreign country, but if I were, I'd probably move to Norway or Belgium.

Belgium for the beer and culture. It would be awesome to live within walking distance of a Trappist monastery. Also, countries such as France, Germany, Netherlands, and Denmark would all be within reasonable travel distance for a weekend getaway

Norway because that's where my great grandparents on my mom's mom's side are from. Also Norway overall has a high average quality of life and GDP per person. Also I like cold weather and pine trees and I'm pretty sure Norway's got lots of both. I love snowmobiling and boating, I think I'd be able to do plenty of both up north. I think I would also be able to find a decent job as a C programmer or Unix Admin and live pretty comfortably in Norway.

Australia would be my next choice after a tropical island...I was there once for a week for R&R. Unfortunately, I spent most of the week getting drunk and getting laid, (ain't that what R&R is for?) but I remember Sydney being a nice city with friendly people. I have a few friends who spent lots of time there as kids. Their parents were teachers and went down under via a government program that highly valued teachers. This was back in the 60's when things weren't quite so grand for Aussies...(Remember, they lost lots of their menfolk during WWII) These friends and their parents spoke VERY highly of the Australian people and the country.

Still, Australia is listed as the continent with the most deadly animals of any of them. Snakes, insects, sharks, sea snakes, crocodiles, etc...oh my...😉

I'll have to go with the others who say Ireland. They've got a great quality of life there and most of the country is beautiful. The history is so in your face there (and many places in Europe from what I see). If my husband-to-be and I like it when we go in a couple weeks, we'll consider going back there again soon for another vacation and maybe eventually to live. You know, just for a change of scenery.

That's awsome. I'd love to have that opportunity.

I think more people should go live in another country for a few years. It would do a lot to break down the self-centered, narrow-mindedness that many Americans seem to have.

I know. We're just starting out, so I figure seeing the world is a good place to start! My parents aren't too happy, but considering I live in a town of about 10,000 people, I wouldn't expect them to understand.
