Wow. Glad to see you're still with us. :)

If that happened to me, I'd be on the phone with two people very fast: The most popular TV news station in the area (they eat up "investigative reports" like this) and my congressman. Then it would be your turn to see the fireworks fly. :)

I too am glad you are okay! :Q

I heard on the news this morning that a "training" mission by the Army outside of Ft. Bragg didn't go so well. A local Sheriff's Deputy killed 1 soldier who mistakenly thought the deputy was part of the training scenario and was wrong... :(

I had a similar incident. When I was much younger I was out fishing with my Dad and a few of my friends. We were anchored about 25 miles offshore to fish. I was on the bow and saw a boat in the distance but didn't think much about it. It got closer and closer and I realized it was a commercial boat (probably on autopilot to a location) so I yelled to my dad in the rear of the boat. He used an airhorn to alert the people in the other boat. They had to swerve to avoid us. I don't remember specific distances but I know if they continued their course they would've run our boat down.

That said, I'll take that 100 times before letting the Navy shoot shells at me! :Q Glad to hear you're okay!

Well actually we did hear on the radio before hand that there were going to be live fire excersises, but when we checked out the coordinates it was about 30 miles away.

Dave: we caugt about 2300 pounds of sea bass, 400 pounds of bluefish, 3 Mako sharks, and several thousand things that nobody I have ever talked to even the local marine science museum knows what they are, but we affectionately call them sea pu**ys.

also we are hook and line fisherman so we don't use nets, We longline sometimes, think perfect storm, and we troll for tuna int he summertime and we bottom fish for sea bass.

Makes me remember that the Auto pilot broke on the way out and when you take your watch it makes it feel 20 times longer when you have to steer. And this isn't like steering a car it takes about 20 pounds of pressure move the wheel tot he right and 15 for the left.

hmmm ouch

The worst sailing experience i had was racing a PICO dingy. It was blowing ~force 6 so if was really going for it and had my feet in the toe straps and then came a big gust and i managed to capsize it. But as i went over i shot foward and it cased my feet to jam in the straps. The extra weight of me on it managed to invert the boat and i was stuck under it with my head under the water in god knows what position for about 30seconds while i tried frantically to free my feet. That was the longest 30 seconds of my life! Eventually i managed to get out though and righted the boat but i came in second last out of all those that finished

Well, I have discussed this with a couple of Navy people that I know, and we think that it is more likely that they knew very well that your boat was not a training dummy, but decided to scare the crap out of you. They were probably en route to/from the live fire exercises, so would account for the rounds spent on their tally for said exercises. If they had actually wanted to hit your boat, they would not have missed. :|

Then if that is the case I really want to sue them. Thats kinda like shooting at the president and then missing and yelling "scared ya didn't I"

I can be a little understanding if it was just a mistake, but if it's something like that then thats just not right.

Also I can't imagine it getting by everybody on that ship. I think the captain would know that rounds went off and would want to know what happened. Then somebodys ass would be in a sling.
