Keep dreaming newegg. :disgust:

That's what I'd tell them. Intel should be protecting their customers.

The first E8400's were $209 at newegg. Now shows $239. A $30 premium makes me wait anyway. Sell out I don't care. 15% hike? IF you've got money to blow I guess you don't care.

Yeah, price controls FTW! Screw supply versus demand, what's it ever done for us anyways? Implement price controls and just deal with the months and months of shortages, like gasoline in the 70's. Good times, super idea!

Exactly....Lets just pray AMD can figure out the phenom and start ramping up the speed. Competition will lead to the price wars we use to enjoy.

Q9300 instock @ Tiger direct $299

Come on AMD, the lack of competition is killing us !!!
Intel is having their way with us, bitch slappin us and forcing us to like it!:(

[Rant on]
They introduce new tech with much fanfair, they give us QX9650 @ $1100+, and tease us with info on Q9XXX, E8XXX, E7XXX for three months while shoveling E6XXX's and Q6XXX's down our throats. They dribble out a few E8400 every once in awhile making sure the $70-$100 price gouge is in effect. And the first Q9XXX we see is the least desirable of the lot, and I'm sure they will dribble out the Q9XXX just like the E8400 to artificially keep prices high. I wouldn't be a bit surprized is you can buy an HP or a Dell with a Q9450/Q9550 before you can actually buy the chip for a reasonable price.
[Rant off]

isn't the low divider a problem, or are there chipsets running +500Mhz fsb?

I certainly see it as a problem, and memory speed also.

As to where all the 45nm Penryn chips have been...if these Intel slides are legit then take a look at Q1/08 for Harpertown!

55% of Xeons shipping this quarter are Harpertown.

If that doesn't eat up 100k processors a day then I don't know what would. And since Clovertown has ramped down so severly that means all those 65nm quads got to be pushed onto the desktop markets as Intel also showed that 90% of its production mix is still 65nm.

I guess you didn't understand my reference...Microcenter B&M stores had a sort of launch party for the E8400 by releasing it before people expected - and for $189...I actually bought one of these...

And their current E8400's were priced at $199 last I checked, although sold out just like everyone else. However it actually took my B&M store a few weeks to sell out and remain that way.

The most recent Microcenter B&M stunt was to sell the Q6600 for $199...which is still happening...

Clearly you had no idea what I was talking about

Actually, I did know what you were talking about. I think you missed the following portion of my post :

"As for whether they will have gonzo prices (a la the E8400 and then the Q6600) on these new CPUs when they release, I kinda doubt it ... Intel won't be trying to clear "excess inventory" on them."

As for their (MC) 8400 pricing, it actually started almost a week after the "official" launch. I supposed that's close enough to call it a "launch party", but at the time a lot of people ALSO were speculating/thought it was an attempt to help Intel clear out 8400's that had a bit of errata (ref. the "temp. issue"). Whatever. All I know is I had already had one on order via BUY.CON for a few days before I bought mine at MC for $189.99 on 1/18/08.
