You dont get it Russ do you. The reason that the TWTA exists is to boost the moral of those who dont have the kind of farm you are festering. This is why you shouldn't have modelled yourself on the Borg collective (nobody likes them). TWTA is a more friendly 'lets get out there and beat everybody else', more so than TA itself.

Also, dont forget, not everybody has the luxury of being able to leave computers on 24/7 cracking away.

vss1980,

What "farm"? The "farm" was completely out of production yesterday and, thanks to dnet's lack of notification, may remain so permanently.

This means that I am only one guy versus your whole team.:D

Not wishing to step on any toes or anything.... and I haven't been around much in a while, so I don't know if there is a history here or not.... so bear with me....

vss1980: I think Russ is just trying to foster a little INTRA-team competition and spirit.... at least that is MY take on the situation based on what I know of him. He's always been very nice (and helpful) to me... and he obviously is dedicated to the team.

Everyone: I've been a member of this team for a pretty long time now, and the reason I joined it is that we built something "special" here. We started with zip, and built a power house witht he help and cooperation... and yes, some competition, from a huge number of folks with widely diverse personalities, theories, resources, etc....

If I am "off-the-mark" here, simply ignore me... BUT, I think that we all need to remember to focus on the goal here.... which is to kick everyone else's butts on the planet, and let there be no doubt that WE are the best Team and have the best members anywhere...

... and above all... to have FUN, enjoy hangin' out with the team, and making friends....

If it hadn't been for TA, WarpCore would never have been built; I NEVER would have met Nevin House.... and The Arctic Circle, Arctic Silver, and the products yet to come would/will never have been created.

...and that's just what I have to be thankful for... I owe a LOT to this Team!

So whenever something like the "OGR at the last minute" thing, single vs. RR proxy, or someone simply ticks you off.... take a minute, step back and think about what his Team means, or could mean, to you.

Then sharpen your focus back to the goal and go assimilate another dozen or so computers! :)

Every single member, and every single key crunched is important.... that's how we got where we are. Back in Feb '99, NO ONE would have ever thought that we would ever need to even discuss needing a RR proxy system of our own.... think about it... :)

Just my opinion of course... Damn I love this Team!

Yo, Russ--you really need to take that tux in and get it cleaned... You've got some serious fleas riding on your coattails. ;)

Besides... what kind of a "Borg collective" is made up of *two* whole people? Sounds more like a partnership than a collective. What TWTA was intended to be is more along the lines of a real collective--a coalition of small-output crackers.

I'm not trying to step on anyone else's toes, or anything. The point is that those who have a lot of computers at their disposal should respect the fact that there are those who have their one and only machine.

vss1980,

I have repeatedly said that people like you are the backbone of the team.

Now, look TWTA people; I'll say one thing. If you can't take it, than don't dish it out.:D Do a search in this forum with the words "TA Cube" or "Borg", and than come back here and whine about this thread.

Russ, NCNE

PS: Welcome back, Clay!:)

Oh, and Xede, there are actually more than just Dan and I. A couple of TA members who hadn't cracked for a while and decided to come back, are doing so for TA Cube. These are little, single computer guys, and they are just as welcome and as important as anyone. "One and Two" is simply a designation for the head of the cube.

I must agree with Russ' statement "If you can't take it, than don't dish it out".

I would also like to say that I am not in TWTA, I'm in TA, period.

Maybe I am one of the kind of people who are the backbone of the team. Soon, I will be able to add a Pentium 100MHz to my PII-400@448 (real big numbers there), but the real backbones of the team are people like Virge, Viztech, RaySun2B, Mika,... Russ??

I want to say "Go get'em Russ", but you are Borg! And Borg were meant to be crushed! It is just so hard to root for ya! :D I may not be TWTA, but I'm comming to get you sooner or later! (As long as I don't keep feeling like I have to bow to OGR that is)

No, vss1980, the real backbone of the team are all the guys who've been slogging along with a computer or two, day after day, week after week and giving whatever blocks they can. THEY are the reason the team is where it is.

As someone who has been slogging away with a single computer for best part of this year, I second that. :)

At the moment Gamma Flux is currently benefitting from my CPU's attention. Will pick up with RC5 again soon.

VSS - I was cracking from a SINGLE CYRIX for almost a whole year. I finally convinced a few friends to run the prog for me..another 50 or so blocks per day there....then another Cyrix came into my hands to assimilate...another few blocks.... I got an Athlon a month ago. Before, with my little "herd" of assimilated friends, I was getting up to 400 blocks per day. Now I'm at over 1k (sometimes around 1500). What russ is doing is NOT slamming them, haven't you heard of "trashtalk"? Usually, people trashtalk (at least, on this board) to inspire others, to try and get them to be proved wrong. Russ is trying to get TWTA to get assimilating, IN A FRIENDLY WAY.

Its great to have heavy hitters, but many of them started out small - I think it was Ray who started with a 486-66. I like being a small guy, hence my reason for not joining TWTA, or TA Cube. There are some who like to be able to compete with more people, and thus, join TWTA or TA Cube in order to be able to be more "competative" and feel a bit better about it - I don't mind being a lower-keyrate guy. Sure, I assimilate what I can, but I don't need to be in TWTA - i'll just assimilate what I can, and leave it at that ;)

Yeah, I am familiar with trash talk, but Russ and TWTA have been firing volleys at each other for a bit now and its finally starting to get a bit annoying.

I think the most frustrating thing is that Russ (one man) can get such a large herd together, while TWTA (several people) cant touch him. GGGRRRRRrrrrrr.

Never mind, as long as TA still benefit from Russ, TWTA, and my 1.2 MKeys/s I cant really complain.

Or in GF terms, 1.25 Mkeys/s (RC5) = 9500 rays/s (GF) :)

Vs1980,
Russ is EXACTLY correct:

<< the real backbone of the team are all the guys who've been slogging along with a computer or two, day after day, week after week and giving whatever blocks they can. THEY are the reason the team is where it is. >>

That is my feelings on it too. That's one of the reasons I started the Milestone Makers post, is to give recognition to all team members that are out there cracking when they cross a predetermined marker. Sure, big herds getting past milestones fast is impressive, but what really blows me away is when a guy who only has a comp or two crosses a major milestone.

TWTA, I have to agree with others, if you can't take it, don't dish it out. You guys started a lot of this TWTA vs BORG banter, and I think Russ only meant this as a FRIENDLY jab.

Clay, so glad to hear from you, and damn glad to hear your doing better! I had joined the team just prior to all of the probs you had, and I always respected what you had to say.

Our biggest enemy to TA isn't competition from other teams, it's from within.

Let's try to remember it's supposed to be FRIENDLY banter and competition. This is a stressful, trying time, people are irritated over OGR and other things, let's don't turn on each other, but instead help each other get through this.

Just remember, When the going gets tough, the tough use Duct Tape!

And ViRGE is correct, I started with a lowly 486DX/66 slugging away at a few blocks a day. There were times that I was amazed at the keyrates some people were getting (Mander was putting out 100K a day at the time) but TA members helped me to realize that my 9 blocks were as important as the big herds.

mind if I step in here.... I do enjoy our trash talking wars with TA Cube and until recently Thrashdot (may it rest in pieces). We (TWTA) did do some major Borg trash talking early on. Until we hit this 8 email wall, things looked up and up esp with a possible retirement of a certain member with over a million blocks (shall remain anonymous). Then the wall hit, and since then we lost our major ability to improve and grow to the Borg size. I was hoping that a discussion with nugget and then moose could have removed the wall. Unfortunatly this is not the case. Until the wall is removed I feel TWTA will never be at borg level unless serious hitters are willing to just switch email addresses and not retire. I was hoping to be able to slug it out with the Cube in the dailies, but I don't think that will happen, at least not any time soon.

You win TA Cube.

I have a question, how exactly do you join TWTA?
I know you can just switch email addresses and have your blocks only count for TWTA, but what is this talk about retireing email addresses?

Does that allow you to keep your own stats but yet be counted under TWTA?

I know I could probably RTFM, but I am too lazy.

You can 'retire' your address into another account, so they effectively become one merged account with the one address. You can't keep track of your own work unless you use a pproxy like Mika's or one of the "round robin" ones that we've just set up.

[EDIT] at this point, you can't "retire" your account into TWTA because there is an 8 email limit (which isn't in their FAQ's, but will be in ours) and TWTA has reached that limit.

HOLD ON ONE STINKING MINUTE!:|

The last time I checked, TWTA membership consists of Possessed Freak, Syst3m, Xede, & myself. After reading through this thread twice, I don't see any of us whining! I'm not suggesting that this thread is private between TWTA & Borg, but get the facts straight.;)

Now after I acknowledge Russ's point,;)
It's time to get back to some of our good natured trash talking:

Hey Borg! Your mother was a carbon-based life form and your father was a toaster oven!:D

Osmo.

osmo, you better add redneck to your message:). I'm joining TWTA for good, devoting at least part of my herd to it(That is, when I get a herd, its just me and my little P200 right now.)

this is goooood! welcome redneck, and if most of you didn't know about the irc channel on othernet, i suggest you all check it out, this is where TWTA was birthed! Russ I can talk all you got old man, so bring it on! [actually i think you have done more whining in this thread than TWTA. I think someone needed to read the directions or maybe an FAQ first. typical macho man, always going in head-first before he knows what he is doing. blame not the others, blame yourself.] anyway, i have something in store for you real soon, so hold tight and try not to have a heart attack, old man! :) :p
