Just FYI, HomeDepot has started to clearance out their old lawn mowing equipment to make room for snow blowers. If you're in need of a new lawn mower, it might be a good idea to check them out now.

I just picked up this guy:

Normally 199, they've had them on sale at around 189 or so. I picked it up for 99. Again, YMMV, but worth a look if you have 1 or more home depots around.

Snow blowers? What are those?

<ducking>

Yep, that's the problem, here in Texas. Hell, they don't even know what a snow shovel is! (most people call coal shovels a snow shovel around here)

That being said, I don't think any of our stores clearance lawn mowers, unless they're being discontinued. :\

According to the guy at my Denver Home Depot, their lawnmowers are "never on sale". I'm skeptical on that one, but anyway, congrats to the OP on his 1/2 price mower.

I kinda figured this'd be the general response. Though I would figure Denver would be in the same boat as myself in Omaha. Being that it's snow season, they need the room for other merchandise.

Anyhoo, bought mine with a tag that had it marked as a "slow mover." Took me a sec to realize that slow mover meant they needed it off the shelf.

I did have to LOL at some of the comments online, as one guy was complaining that you couldn't adjust the speed. Uh... it's a push mower, not a self propelled one. You start it, it runs, and you push it over tall standing grass. Variable speed is not something that is exactly necessary.

Well, so long as that's what he meant. In recent years, you don't have the engine speed controls, like mowers used to have (with the end settings being the rabbit and the turtle), to change the engine rpm. Instead, in order to gain more "mileage" (fuel economy) from the engine, it seems some manufacturers dial down the engine rpm's quite a bit. Back around 6 years ago, I had a $99 Toro mower that was a dog out of the box, but with the rpm's dialed up, and a little bit of hacksaw magic to cut the grass clippings opening a bit larger (it was constantly clogging), it was a champ!

Sometimes ya just gotta re-engineer things a little bit, right? ;)

yeah nowdays it takes a 5 horsepower pushmower to even cut anything, and it still doesn't have the power that the old metal cast iron briggs 3 horse motors had :p Pretty sad HAHA. Of course it doesn't help to have to burn this crappy ethanol fuel in them either. Anyway yeah, no throttle, and the worst is no choke setting! My theory on the fixed throttle is, that the old motors had better balancing and better qc and tolerances, therefore they could turn more rpms. I think the new motors are put together as cheap as possible in china, and so when they limit the rpms they will turn, they actually have a shot at lasting a season or two without coming apart. With that being said, I can't understand why the mower the OP listed was ever bringing 199 for? Did it come with some fancy accessories or something?

Man props to OP. Half off is a great Hot Deal. For the money, that hard to beat.
Here in Southern Calif. just an observation.
Prolly 90+% of the gardners I see drive a little Toyota pick up and use Toro mowers. My guess is they are reliable.
I was too cheap to spring for a Toro when I needed a new mower in a pinch.
I used a Lowes 10% off total purchase coupon from the postal mover's pkg.
I selected this mower http://www.lowes.com/pd_317764-270-11A-B29Q711_4294747213_4294937087_?productId=3142529&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_Gas%2BPush%2BMowers_4294747213_4294937087_%3FNs%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr%7C0%7C%7Cp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInfo=#BVRRWidgetID from Lowes because of the price and it had a Honda engine with overhaed valves. $249 less $24.90. Wish I could have found a deal like the OP did.
My neighbor is excited, as he needs one now.
Thanks op!
