Yet more corruption and cronyism from the Bush administration

So, the Bush administration is now purging a bunch of fine US Attorneys, to make room for cronies instead, to be rewarded and positioned for senior appointments.

For more on the facts, get a day pass and read this Salon story.

If anyone wonders why the democrats attack the Bush administration so much for corrupt cronyism, this is one of countless good examples.

The attorney who successfully dealt with corrupt GOP Rep. Duke Cunningham? Gone. In is someone with almost no experience - but a member of the right-wing Federalist Society.

Another good attorney is being replaced by a deputy of Karl Rove.

Reportedly, these actions are unprecedented in our nation's history.

Yes, it's a pattern; in Iraq, a big cause of the problems was the administration appointing kids in their 20's who had nothing but having applied to the American Enterprise Institute right-wing think tank, instead of qualified people, to senior positions in Iraq, with disastrous effect. It's all about 'building a party power infrastructure' for them so they can continue to pursue a greedy, corrupt agenda.

It's a scandal, it's bad for the country, and it's time for the republicans here to stop being victims of the propaganda and start being Americans who stand up for right.

The larger problem with this isn't the cronyism, its the ability of the President/AG to remove prosecutors and replace them without congressional oversight. Thanks Patriot Act. Score another one!

Now if a prosecutor is sniffing around at something you don't like, Patrick Fitzgerald style, Bush can dismiss him and find a new prosecutor who isn't quite so nosy. (of course they won't dismiss Fitzgerald, it's too public... but who knows how that might come up in the future?)

I've said it before, he's not a genius, the problem is we are a country of ignorant lazy sheep who don't want to do anything more difficult that changing the channel.

I'm depressing myself...

Ah, but he knew that much better and much earlier than you. And his genius, of course is that it is HE that depresses you (and smirks).

He doesn't depress me, society does. If anything he makes me feel sad that the American political system has fallen to such a low level, I really don't see how it can be saved.
