I bought a PS3 less than a month ago and couldn't be happier with it so far. I was going after one of the new consoles and the wii fell out quick, leaving just the 360 and PS3. Having owned both a ps2 and x-box I was pretty neutral, except the ps3 exclusives were slightly more appealing to me than the 360 ones. In the end it was an easy decision.

I remember owning a PS2 and watching the x-box slowing pull way in front with its better hardware and hackability. This gen it seems the tables have turned with the PS3 being more "future-proof". The ability to install linux and upgrade the harddrive easily are big bonuses to me, as is the blu-ray drive for movies and larger data game discs. The lower price arguement is a little overrated too. When games are $60 each, the one time investment in a more expensive console doesn't seem that bad.

At some point I'll have both systems. The one thing that would have easily swayed me in either direction early on would have been original x-box or, even better, dreamcast type ease to hack and mess around with. I see nothing but the PS3 becoming better in the next few years. Until then I'll enjoy the few great games it has along with a plethora of PS1/PS2 classics. (why couldn't game companies have made every x-box game 360 compatible, I don't know.... sigh)

odd that you would get a ps3 now over the xbox360. the xbox360 is worlds apart considering the quality of games out this fall.

Well, that's certainly part of the reason. I play most FPS's on a PC which takes away a huge chunk of the big name games on the 360. I think many other gamers are similar. I can fire up Bioshock on the PC but FF13 is only on the PS3.

yea, this season, the only FPS to not release on the PC was Halo 3 (which is highly overrated as an FPS), and Bioshock 3 is the only other title to not release on the PS3 in terms of FPS games, which that is an FPS/RPG hybrid as it is, great though.
and with the titles this fall, I'd have picked up a PS3 over a 360 too, if I didn't already have a PS3. I still don't have a 360 and don't care. Only games that have released on 360 that's not on PS3 that I want (also taking into consideration all FPS games I play on PC) is Mass Effect, and Dead Rising.

yerp, thats my reason for going ps3 instead of 360. in any case, either of those two are good choices depending on the types of games you like. or get a wii only if you want to play mario.

Is it true that the latest versions of the PS3 won't play PS2 games?

The $399 model won't at all. The 80gb version has software emulation for PS2 as opposed to the actual hardware inside the old 20/60gb versions.

Well I definitely didn't choose to buy a PS3 over 360 this year. It was pretty bad this year imo. Uncharted is the only thing I really want to play on it. Their lineup looks to be more than worth the cost in 2008 though.

This debate is endless as usual. For me, it always boils down to one final point which I will leave you guys with:

The only thing that I really want is the extinction of all exclusive game titles. I want the industry to change to a point where the cost of purchasing the rights for an exclusive title is far more than it is worth and game companies would be insane to lower the cost of those rights when considering the profits they could make if their titles were on every console and maybe even PC.

Just like I am tired of dealing with multiple video formats (namely HD-DVD and Blue-ray at the moment), I am tired of having to buy 2-3 expensive plastic boxes just so I can play any game I want. I just want to be able to buy the consoles based on the console features and not the games that will be released on them. To me, that is a gamer consumer's dream.

Now, is that dream close to reality? I don't know. However, I have been reading more and more articles and interviews where game developers are talking about how there is little future for exclusive titles these days since they theorize that the numbers just don't add up right. I am no expert in this field, but I hope they are right. If that is the future trend, then it will be a slow gradual one for sure.

I agree. Most 360 games are also on the pc (my preferred gaming platform) so I've picked up a PS3 and Wii.

The PS3 while lacking exclusive content "at the moment" has been worth it to me for the Blue Ray player alone. Plus I picked up the 60gig version so I have a ton of PS2 games I haven't finished. I feel the PS3 will have more exclusives Im interested in and if a game is console exclusive Im also covered.

My Wii has been getting a workout lately with Super Mario Galaxy, Zack and Wiki, Metroid Prime 3, MLB Power Pros, and Mario Striker Charged. A lot of so called "hardcore" gamers snub the Wii but IMHO its a fantastic little console. IMHO its the 360 fanboys/trolls. They really love to hate all the other platforms. Thier loss. 😛

I'm a 360 fanboy. Will be getting a PS3 in January. Wii is retarded. So you are half right.

Most of the people here who love the 360 and are vocal about it either have a PS3/Wii or plan on buying one (purbeast, blurred, etc). I"m not a fanboy of any console in particular. I am however a fanboy of good games, which the 360 has the most of right now. I'm also a fanboy of a great online multiplayer experience, which the 360 has the best right now (by FAR) .

I won't be getting a Wii because the controls don't appeal to me, at all (motion sensing). I don't hate the Wii, but I certainly don't want one.

I'll be getting a PS3 when there is enough value there in games, and when I'm done playing all of these new games that just came out.

PS3 is awesome!!! Although I want an hddvd player to so I wont get the 360. To bad it still has a standard dvd player.
