Having owned both a ps2 and x-box I was pretty neutral, except the ps3 exclusives were slightly more appealing to me than the 360 ones. In the end it was an easy decision.
I remember owning a PS2 and watching the x-box slowing pull way in front with its better hardware and hackability. This gen it seems the tables have turned with the PS3 being more "future-proof". The ability to install linux and upgrade the harddrive easily are big bonuses to me, as is the blu-ray drive for movies and larger data game discs. The lower price arguement is a little overrated too. When games are $60 each, the one time investment in a more expensive console doesn't seem that bad.
At some point I'll have both systems. The one thing that would have easily swayed me in either direction early on would have been original x-box or, even better, dreamcast type ease to hack and mess around with. I see nothing but the PS3 becoming better in the next few years. Until then I'll enjoy the few great games it has along with a plethora of PS1/PS2 classics. (why couldn't game companies have made every x-box game 360 compatible, I don't know.... sigh)
odd that you would get a ps3 now over the xbox360. the xbox360 is worlds apart considering the quality of games out this fall.
