Long:
I was heading toward a medical center today to donate blood, and accidentally drive past..so I decide to head to the next light to try and U-Turn.
I move into the farthest left lane thinking it's a turn lane since a) It's divided by cones from the right two lanes, b) there's a sign next to one of the traffic lights that says "Left turn on arrow only" (and No U-turn..so I decide to just turn left and go back out), and c) the lane opposite to me on the other side of the street had a left turn arrow..and there were no signs whatsoever that states no left turns.
The only troublesome thing was that the traffic light that's supposed to guide left turns was off, while the ones that guide traffic straight was red. There is a light near my house back at home that's like that at times, except when it's supposed to turn green the green arrow does come up..So I figure I'd just wait for it to turn green.
I do just that then, and as the light for traffic going straight ahead turns green, I patiently wait for my light to turn green..but after seeing the straight traffic light turn red, cars in the opposite left turn lane go through, and cars on my right and left moving along and finally the straight traffic light turning green once again I decide I'm going to have to just turn left when traffic is cleared up.
As I do I'm pulled over by a cop who says that you're not supposed to make left turns there, and that it's been like that for a year or so..annd that there's "supposed" to be a sign against it (there was no such sign there today)..and that I was just supposed to go straight when the light was green to allow traffic to go through, and cited me for impending traffic.
I had to go to class afterward, so I left my car in the plaza parking lot, and as I was walking toward class I saw a truck make a left turn where I had been ticketed. This really frustrated me even further..and again as I walked back I saw a cop car make a left turn as well. I go up and talk to him then, and he is rather supportive of my case, understands my confusion and all but says I shouldn't have been ticketed.
I'm definitely going to fight this one.
