Yet another tipping thread

I met the GM of a restaurant on the train last week and he invited me in for dinner tonight at his restaurant (which we've never been to). I'm really excited as it's well known.

I assume since I've met him, he'll take care of us somehow... buy us an app, etc. But no matter what he does, since he's the general manager, we only have to tip the waiter, right? Tipping a GM would be weird and out of character, yes?

Just want to make sure.
 
Is the "General Manager" of a restaurant different than the "Manager"?

Under what circumstances would you tip the General Manager (or Manager) of a restaurant?

just tip the waiter and thank the GM. if the GM served you or whatever, then leave him the tip. Otherwise the whole point of tipping is being thankful for service. the level of service dictates the amount tipped, which afaik is still upwards of 18%. The GM paying the bill or whatever has nothing to do with a tip really, its for the service.
