OK, so I'm sitting here doing the rest of my work (that doesn't include maintaining a quartet of calibration systems in a clean room). I get a call "system 4 is doing it again"
"doing what again?"
"It's just going over and over"
*still 100% clueless* "failing functional?"
"no, can you come in"
"okay, I'll be in there in a few minute"

...I go in there and plug a connector in that had jarred loose, could've fixed it over the phone, but yet again had to drop what I was doing and PLUG A CONNECTOR IN.

Why can't people just answer questions and read error messages?!

(note: this happens about once per week for various issues, like replacing a toner cartrige on a HP 1100xi)

Because of a recent lay off, had to change jobs and I'll be starting a tech support job within the next couple of weeks.

Again.........

ugh!

And I don't look forward to it. Did some tech support a couple of years ago. It was only a small part of my normal job, as an Information Officer for my unit.

You attempt to talk users through certain procedures and they get ahead of you. Such as setting up an Exchange account on the LAN. Or even configuring the network login settings. What a mess.

Sometimes, I said "screw it!" and headed out the door to their location.

But in this next position I won't be able to do that. All of the call-ins shall be miles away.

I know what you mean too. My former job I just left was in a class 1000 clean room.
