Alyx says something about there being a generator in the main square. Let her do something and then hit it with the gravity gun. So I go out into the square and kill the 2 guys, sit around for 10 minutes, and nothing happens. I go back into the room with alyx and she's just standing in the corner. I tried to hit this thing (and the pillar behind me) with the grav gun... tried lots of stuff. No more enemies come, no message from alyx, no nothing. Help?

From that screen shot, if you did a 180 turn there is a "tube" use the alt fire on gravity gun to pull a ball of light out of it.
 
I've tried that... nothing happens. No ball of light... Did alyx give you a message or something saying she was ready? Cause she's standing around with her thumb up her ass in my game.
 
she is supposed to work the console for like 5 minutes, then something behind you in that screenshot should open up

did you hit her too much? i noticed that if you hit her too much with friendly fire she'll just stand there and do nothing. could be conincidence though.
 
I'll just add I thought this was one of the harder moments in the game. So many dudes start rushing. I think I ended making it to the other side of the wall with 3 health points left after 4 or 5 tries.
 
You've got 100/100 health, and at least 2 teammates still alive. There is NO way this scene has even started for you 😉 Alyx needs to use that computer console you are looking at. Maybe you are in her way.

Yeah she doesn't even follow me out there. She sits in the room just before that... where you and her rush the two guys from 2 different doors... Maybe I'll go back a save point and retry that.

I just skipped ahead in the meantime, but I really do want to do that part 🙂

Yes I had to use the primary fire at that point too.
 
bad guys are supposed to start pouring out behind those force fields attacking you nonstop 1 side at a time for a while. eventually she opens that pillar directly behind you and there is a ball floating in a stream of energy. for whatever reason you are letting her activate the trigger that starts the baddies.
 
Yeah I guess there's something wrong with mine then... prolly hit her too much or something cause she just sits in the corner in a room inside. Thanks. I'll see if I can't make her come out.
