I am curious about how SETIQ and SETI@Home stamp the user name on the work units.
Is it the settings in the program that count, or is it the setting is SETIQ? I know that I can connect to my que via the internet (I just tried). I'm wondering if someone else connected to it who had a different user id/email, what would happen:
1) Setiq would reject the connection?
2) Setiq would pass the work unit to the client and then accept it back and then I would get credit when the WU was sent to SETI@HOME via SETIQ?
3) Setiq would pass the work unit to the client and then accept it back and then the id in the client would get credit when the WU was sent to SETI@HOME via SETIQ?
If option 2 is the truth, then I'll be pretty happy. Option 3 would be cool when SETI@HOME goes down as others without SETIQ could be fed from other member's stock of work units.
Option 2 also would give us an easy way to have a "general" member that the people that just do a couple of Wu's a week could point to. They would get and receive WU's from a master SETIQ and that user (not one of us, but a team user) would start showing up in our stats.
If you're curious and want to test, PM me and I'll send you the address for my SETIQ server.
