Yet another, semi-random, semi-crazy thought. Replace OC SKL w/dGPU with APU?

How about a GPU downgrade? Swap the 7950 for something like a 750Ti?

That way, you can be platform agnostic and still have better multi-monitor support.

750Ti + i3 will be far faster than an APU in nearly every metric, while likely also having better performance per watt in nearly every metric.

Just thinking, maybe I could sell the "SKY OC" rigs, and make a slight profit, even used, since Intel has been cracking down on that feature.

Edit: And it's finally getting warmer here in the Northeast USA. I was thinking, since the SKL CPU + 7950 dGPU, I estimate takes 300W+ at full load, that possibly, the 65W APU would be a bit more power-miserly. (Yes, I know that in relative terms, if the SKL was not overclocked, it might take some less power, but then I would be stuck with Intel iGPU, which, quite frankly, sucks, especially with my particular monitors.)

Larry, why are you going to compare power consumption of system A at full power to just the APU itself in system B at idle? Idle to idle these systems are likely going to be very close together in power consumption. The big difference - system B can't provide the same level of performance by increasing power consumption.

I like this idea. Just switch to the GTX 950 you already have and you get the nVidia driver support and likely lower idle power consumption along with better video acceleration support.
