I don't really expect political people to lead anywhere if they won't be followed. I hold out little hope that this country loves kids more than its guns. If I'm wrong, great.

Back when I was still on Facebook I remember reading some post by our right wing gun-toting ex band member. It's not the guns, it's a mental health issue!
But wait--is America the only country mentally ill? Ah, it must be that we need more Jesus.
But wait, do other non-shithole countries have more Jesus/Mohammed/Gandalf/insert holy hero here than we do? Hmmm, seems like we lead there too.

And will the Republican politicians that the gun nuts vote in be carrying the torch for more, and better (and more expensive) mental health programs? With government mandating care, surely, for those that need it but refuse it (like someone I know very well unfortunately)? No, of course not, that's SOCIALISM!

it's all just lip service. Ten times the kids could be getting mowed down and they'll just double down on this dreck. Let's hope I'm never proved right on that.

I know that you, like most people that treat guns as part of their identity, will ignore all information that shows guns are bad for society. You will then claim other people that don't share your fearfulness of the world are ignorant of the subject. You let the fake feelings of safety that guns provide you blind you to reality, and for those empty hits of dopamine you are willing to sacrifice thousands of children a year.
The post you quoted suggested that people know when in fact they do not and don’t want to see that. You began your post with, “I know” thus denying any consideration that I am right just as I said would happen. Are you perhaps now feeling that I am suggesting you are unworthy of respect having pointed out what a predictable idiot you are?

What I went through as a young individual was a psychological transformation, having experienced the incredible rage and then shame of realizing that all of my sacred beliefs and opinions about reality itself were complete and total lies. So pardon me for saying that I know exactly what a deep look in the mirror will bring. I used to be stuffed full of garbage opinions and explode like a mine if stepped on.

I have said many times that the truth of what we feel is the last thing we want to know and that if you do not have some inkling of the fact that our fate is written not in the stars but in ourselves, any life event that triggers those hidden feelings beyond our capacity for denial can result in violent behavior even murder or suicide.

We are the world. The mirror will tell you. You can’t look at the Hydra without one. With a mirror and a sword can you kill the monster that sleeps within. The truth is hidden because we are motivated to hide it. Absurdities written into law help us do that. Humanity belongs to the cult of ignorance. And the beauty of it is that you can see it if you look within and are sincere.

More bromides.
That reminds me of a story about two men arguing in front of a mosque about wearing shoes inside while a man without any went inside to pray and had it answered. Perhaps people who appear to cast pearls before swine don’t think of them as pearls but just bromides about pig shit. To a man with a hammer everything might look like a nail which comes in quite handy if the problem is a loose nail.
