In his new book, "Worse Than Watergate: The Secret Presidency of George W. Bush," Dean warns the country that the Bush administration is even more secretive and authoritarian than Nixon's -- in fact, he writes, it's "the most secretive presidency of my lifetime."

"To say that the [Bush-Cheney] secret presidency is undemocratic is an understatement," he adds. "I'm anything but skittish about government, but I must say this administration is truly scary and, given the times we live in, frighteningly dangerous."

I might actually read this one. I have nothing but respect for John Dean.

Is there any negative comment about Bush, or this administration, that you would agree with? Or are you determined to deflect and label as false anything negative said about either?

Oh, and I have to ask...do you believe Dean's opinion of this government is wrong?

I haven't read the book, so I'm not sure what his opinion is.

The point of the "lap lap lap" or I could have said "f*p f*p f*p" is that this is just another chance for the anti-bush people to froth at the mouth and try to link Bush to Nixon. They tried this "nixon" tactic last fall but it didn't stick - and it isn't going to stick this time either.

But feel free to lap it up:)

I must have missed that. What was that all about?

I followed politics quite closely last fall as well, and I missed that too. Did this occur in the same alternate universe where Saddam was an actual threat to us?

The book is on my list to read...but I don't think Dean is trying to link Nixon to Bush II.

More like an insider of Nixon's admin compairs and contrasts the Bush II adventure.

I can't keep up with all tese books, its mind-numbing.

he's just reeling from the shock that his beloved bush is being attacked by republicans like clarke, not liberals. he's growing desperate to believe in bush, as his belief is more like religion then reason.

CAD didn't say 'compared', he said 'linked to'. I think I recall this admin being compared to Nixon's before but I've never seen anyone try to link the two.

Caddy, you must stay away from Bush's behind. You can get germs if you don't watch where you put your tongue.

Link one:
U.S. Representative Martin Frost, D-Texas, expressed his outrage by making a historical comparison, explaining that, "Not since Richard Nixon and Watergate 30 years ago has there been an effort to involve federal law enforcement officials in a partisan political matter."

Link two - this same guy last year

Link three
Invoking 1972 is not entirely a bad idea. In that year, with Watergate, Nixon attempted to steal the Constitution, and there are instructive parallels with Bush.

Link four

Need I continue?

Meh - more for you to ponder.

And then there are some of us who don't need to read any book to formulate our own conclusions. There is no attempt to link Nixon to Bush here.

Even mentioning them both in the same breath is a disgrace to Nixon. Nixon is a better president 6 feet under the ground than Bush will ever be. The funny part is that you cons think that if you follow them like sheep, they will someday let you into the secret society. Pft.

Again CAD, I think what we have here is typically called a c-o-m-p-a-r-i-s-o-n...not a l-i-n-k.

Those are the links you're talking about? They're opinion pieces written by a few lefties on the Internet. Nothing they would ever say could stick because a whopping 200 liberals in the country (and you) read them...
