Yet another reason why polls are unreliable....

"The polls [sic] was conducted from interviews with 1,218 adult Americans, including 603 likely voters, from October 12 through 13."-CNN, October 14, 2000.

If less than half the people were likely voters, who were the "unlikely" voters? Ten year olds? Dead people? Visiting Russians? Canadians? Good grief, why bother to even do a poll if you can't give us an ATTEMPT at a representative sample.

No wonder some of you guys like Fox. At least Fox all but tells you they have a skewed point of view. Sheezh!

This poll suggests Bush "won" the debate.

I believe that you will see many dead people voting.

Especially in the Chicago area.

There are a couple of takes on the "likely voter issue":
1. A significant number of pepole will tell a pollster that they are not likely to vote when in fact they will vote ... these typically turn out to be conservatives who don't want to be hassled for their position.

2. Some folks will be too embarrassed to say thay they are not regular voters ... these tend to be liberals that probably won't vote ...

These are fairly dodgy propositions, but they do do seem to correlate with a recent trend where conservatives regularly poll behind just prior to an election and then end up winning by a couple of percentage points. - We can only hope!

Just my take based on reading and watching ... no warranty of being absolutely true all the time.

I don't really pay much attention to polls. They aren't always reliable and it's really, really hard to conduct a truly neutral poll or survey. Top that with the fact many news organizations don't concern themselves with neutrality and you end up with a muddy swimming poll, er I mean pool -- if you want to get wet, dive in but remember you'll need to hose-down afterward.

Actually it seems the consensus of nearly all the polls that GW won the debate. Had Gore shown he won in the polls, chess9 would be gloating. Let things go sour and Liberals always get a pissy attitude. They ALWAYS try and shoot the messenger.

You have got to be kidding! ... Gore's position on issues is not clear at all. This is not just my conservative bias showing ... a non-partisian group (Taxpayers Union I think; bunch of accountants) recently examined Bushes policy statement vs the TAX CALCULATOR that he has on his web site: it was found to be accurate (and showed how the "NON 1% richest" people would benefit). Contrast this with the same group's attempt to decipher Gore's "targeted tax cut" policy. By the way Gore doesn't have a tax calculator at all; this is should be a sure sign of trouble all by itself. Anyway, this group could not tell how the Gore "targeted tax cut" policy would work, who exactly it would apply to and for those unknown taxpayers to ehom it would apply, how much it would benfit them. Man! Talk about a lack of clarity on what is a BIG issue.

This is just one example. If you want to go with the "I'm voting with Gore because I believe he is a nice man who likes people like me and will take money from the 'richest 1%' to take care of me" point of view, great. But please don't allege that issues are not being addressed in the campaign. They are .. just dig a little. You won't like the picture though if you're leaning Democrat.

PS: I am sure not in the richest 1% ... but would very much like to be ... and am working and saving and investing to try and get there ... ditto the wife and kids ...

If that's true it really makes me wonder if Gore and his people really have any desire at all to pass any meaningful tax rate cut legislation. Why put in the work to design a great plan when you have no intention of following through? Just a simple observation on my part.

Clinton/Gore promised a middle-class tax cut in '92....never even suggested a tax cut after he was elected. In fact the very first budget proposed by the Clinton administration contained the largest tax hike in history! Gore cast the deciding vote on that budget...remember?...the buget that RAISED the tax rate on tripleshot's poor mother.
