whats the point of that??

Not only is that kind of crap useless for off roading (are they going to ford a river?) but it looks goofy.

Says someone who's most likely never driven their car down anything more extreme than a dirt road. Surprisingly enough, with most lifted vehicles it's function over form. They do that for a reason.

Lifting is useless for off-roading ? Congratulations on making the most uninformed post I've read tonight.

From my personal experience SUV drivers are no worse or better than any other driver. I've seen horrible drivers in minivans, camrys, civics, passats and about every other car brand. The only demographic that I haven't seen do stupid things are drivers of high end car. But I guess you're gonna pay extra attention after you plunk $70k for a car.

Grinnan said Galdino was traveling in a southbound lane near the Fairfax County Parkway when he hit Gebreegziabher.

Check out those names!

That said, I dislike SUV's, but this is more a 'drunk drivers suck' thread than an 'SUV's suck' thread.

I really don't understand all the anti-SUV sentiment. In the last month I've hauled around a 23' boat, brought home a huge gas grill, and transported a 6' tall washer/dryer. A big SUV or fullsize truck were the only options for doing this. Now are these activities typical for my life? Not especially. Normally it is me occuping 1/8 of the seating. But is it nice to be able to do all this? Definitely.

Edit 1: With the roads around DC I can actually imagine how it is possible to hit someone and rationalize to yourself that it was just a monster pothole or something.

Edit 2: On the lifted SUV issue, I agree with the original poster - there is definitely a limit to how much lifting accomplishes anything useful. Typically your ground clearance will be limited the most by your axles, as the pumpkin in the center will typically hit something long before it would bash into the body of your car. So yes the trucks that are 6' off the ground with 33" tires (giving them about 15" of ground clearance even if the pumpkin didn't exist) are completely worthless, except that you can walk underneath to change the oil.

That's not entirely true. You can get over bumps by running the wheel over them rather than the pumpkin. But still, lifting beyong a certain point is stupid and just makes the vehicle unstable.

Yeah I'm sure you would've backed down like this if nobody here was defending SUVs.

You --> retard.

Iamwiz --> :D:beer:

Actually, i have nothing against suv's to begin with. I just thought it was a crazy article. the not needing suv's comment was purely satirical
