I tend to listen to them in the morning, didn't this morning though. Which one of the moron's said it? I'm gonna guess Crash, he does the traffic and is a total moron.

Actually, almost anywhere but Atlanta would be nice. We have a great cycling scene but the daily abuse I get from motorists gets old after a while. It's rare that I go ride an don't have some jerkoff yell/honk/throw something at me. :frown:

I recommend posting this at the MTBR.com forums - even though they are mountain bikers I'm sure they would be curious to know how their roadie brethren are being treated in Atlanta. The more the merrier!

That's just pathetic. What the hell is wrong with people? It's true, generally speaking, people do suck.

Like I said, lots of cars + lots of bikes + crappy roads = pissed off people. It's just a bad situation all 'round and the GA regional commission has no interest in doing anything about it. They just keep adding more lanes to the highways thinking this will somehow fix the traffic/smog problem.

I did, I just wanted to add my opinion.

And I totally agree about the bike lane thing. Up here in Worthington (where I work), they have bike lanes on a lot of the roads. It is real nice.

I understand that, but it's been debated into the ground and that's not why I created the thread. On top of that, you formed an opinion which ignores some laws regarding bikes and why we're on the road.

Believe me, I try to avoid busy roads if/when I can but that doesn't mean I don't still get sh*t from people in cars. I can be 40 miles outside of Atlanta in the middle of nowhere and my mere presence on the road is still enough to incite abuse from motorists.

/me swerves my car violently towards Fausto, running him off the road.

But seriously, I don't ride my bike anymore, but I walk to work most days. When I do I have to cross a busy intersection by the interstate. Every time I cross (in the crosswalk with a signal mind you) I always have to kep an eye on the people turning right just to make sure they stop for me. I get a lot of dirty looks. "What are you doing crossing the street when I'm trying to turn?"

Screw you assmunch, you have to share the roads.

We have at least two attorneys on my cycling team. I would advise not trying to mash me if you value your wallet. :p

Yeah, people turning forget that (unless they have a green turn arrow) the ped in the crosswalk has the right-of-way. I've had some choice words with people to "remind" them of this over the years as I often walk to go eat luch or hit the bank during the week.

What can you do some people are just ignorant morons. Yesterday I was almost killed by a person that went speeding through a stop sign. And don't tell me they just did not see it. As I was riding towards the intersection I saw some other guy stop at it.

The bottom line is that the are stupid cyclist and stupid drivers. The problem is that the stupid driver could kill someone. The stupid cyclist are more likely to kill themselves.

If anything in my area, my death will be from another cyclist. No one in my area has respect for rules or rides the right way in the bike lines.

I remember the Bob Dumas incident on G105 awhile back. They told him that he had to do an apology. So he did a satirical piece and did a half-ass apology...Before that he was screaming at a caller and calling her a whore since she was cohabitating with a man prior to wedlock, yet he had admitted that he slept with his current wife before they were married.

The last time I checked he's still on the air. The bicycle incident was just too much and ClearChannel is a just a greedy evil organization for choosing him because he is controversial and brings in ratings.

It can't hurt to get in touch with Tour of Georgia officials, you know. Try to get pics of you protest and post 'em here. :)

It's a real shame there are idiots who publicly declare on the radio that they drive while high, and they don't get in trouble. Then on top of it, they advocate explicitly violent, potentially fatal behavior and still nothing happens. In a day and age where someone gets fired for the vaguest hint of sexism or racism, it's really unfortunate that morons like that guy don't get fired or worse.

Anyway, I ride in NYC. It's about 3 miles (60 blocks) between home and my university. Most of it is on a relatively quite street / road (Riverside Drive) but parts of it are aboslutely brutal. There's a 15 block stretch where there is suppoed to be a bike line the entire way, and yet I never get to use it because of double-parkers (and they NEVER get ticketed up here).

Fausto, have you ever heard the phrase "shock jock?" These guys are probably still morons, but the entire point here is to grab attention via saying outragous things that few people would actually agree with, which incites anger and responses from the listeners. I hate to say it, but you've fallen for the tactic hook, link, and sinker.

PS Brutus, why would anyone want to move to Eugene? Salem is where it's as :p

We're going to do more than that, trust me. The guy who called in is working to get a transcript and will file complaints with the FCC, the station, and their parent company.

While I sympathize with you (in the non-violence against a group of people sense), I certainly don't think this guy should be fired. He, bluntly, expressed his opinion about an issue ya'll confronted him on. If he's gonna get fired then it shouldn't be over something so trivial. It's not like he's not inciting a riot here. If motorists are gonna take what he says to heart, then they were probably gonna be jerks anyway.

Fausto, you said :

Bike lanes would solve this and are very cheap. This is often as simple as restriping the roads.

Yeah, right. Here? On,say a road like Peachtree between Paces Ferry and midtown?? Good God, the cars are already squeezed tighter than Dick's hat band down there right now. You work around Emory? How about Clairmont, North Druid Hills and the like? Man, these roads are deadly to drivers, let alone cyclists. If you were to paint a bike lane down these roads, then you would probably only be able to get bikes down them.

All of this, of course is a moot point. You, as well as anyone, should know that the Georgia legislature has more pressing issues to deal with. Specifically renaming roads for Alan Jackson and finding a solution to our state flag crisis. Its a crisis I tells ya! Oh, and forget about DeKalb doing anything when you have Vernon Jones assaulting city council members. Atlanta city council? Jesus, you got the friggin mayors son-in-law on the run for drug trafficking conspiracy.

Georgia rules!!!!!!

Peace

I don't advocate violence against cyclists but you guys are a hazard. You run the road in your little groups acting like you own the road all the while impeding the safe flow of automobile traffic. You put yourself in harms way and then expect for everyone else to watch out for you but unfortunately a lot of people can't drive.

It always amazes me how you pick roads where there is barely enough room for cars and then act like you are suprised when people in cars get upset getting stuck behind your slow moving spandex wearing asses. Go find a track or a private road....or a place where there is a bike lane. You have no business on a public road.

sure they do.. that's indeed why it is a "public" road.

odds are the bike riders are part of the public. they own cars, pay registration fees, pay taxes, and car owners should pay attention to pedestrians and cyclists.

fattening of America? you can eat your mac and chees and drive your pickup, but others can and should be allowed to ride their bikes just the same.
