Whats the best thing to get to stay warm while running outdoors? I have sweats but they are too bulky to wear to run and if I sweat in them it'd be even worse. I'm in NYC and it's still gonna be pretty cold here until maybe late April.

What's the best and most comfortable thing to get? As far as I know there are two options:

Track suit? Not sure if that's what they're called, but it's the pants & jacket that you see NBA players wearing while they are on the bench. Lightweight and I'm guessing they wick the sweat away?

Or those running tights (I see my neighbor wearing these to go running) that go underneath your tshirt and shorts.

Wear whatever you're comfortable wearing. You're the one running in it. You're going to get warm running after the first mile.

Depends on the weather. A good rule of thumb is to dress as if the temp is +20F then it really is, to counter the heat you will be putting out while running. Of course, this is only a rough guideline. Clear sunny days you will heat up more; cloudy, windy days, (or rain) you won't.

In general, for me, if it's around freezing, and the weather is good (no rain, no major wind/clouds) I go with just tights (spandex) and a long sleeve mock turtleneck. Plus gloves (lightweight, wicking fabric) and ear warmer (I don't like wearing a full hat). My ears and hands are the most sensitive to cold, so that's why I wear the gloves and ear band. I won't run outside if it's cold and raining, it's just too miserable.

If it's in the 40's, maybe tights and a T-shirt (not cotton), and probably just gloves, but no headband.

Once it gets into the 50's, shorts and t-shirt only most likely.

But it really is up to what is comfortable for you. If you are running an sort of decent length (more then 30min), dress to be cold for the first 10min while you warm up. Nothing worse then wearing too much and sweating too much, plus then it sucks if you take a layer off and expose a sweat soaked undershirt to the cold (hate that!). I wouldn't wear sweats, I would think leg chafing would be pretty bad for any real length. Spandex under running shorts would be better, and give a bit more wind-proofing to the boys.

I ran yesterday in tights, long sleeve wicking shirt, vest, wool socks, hat & gloves (7deg. F).
