Well I started in my current company back in Sept 05 as an assistant to the IT Coordinator. About a year into the position I was asked to try and stay at least 60% "billable" as well as doing some IT tasks. Needing the job I agreed.
Fast foreward to about three weeks ago. We had an office "meeting" that would remind most everyone here about the bob's in the movie Office Space. I was worried and immediately started looking for a new position elsewhere. Turns out I was promoted and was given 70% of the office to support. I might be replacing the current IT guy and now I no longer have to be billable.
Well it turns out that in the past three weeks I had two interviews one of which just extended me an offer that is abour $800 more a year. It is the max that they can go. I have not recieved a raise yet in my current position because the other IT guy is still here but, like I said, I think he is on his way out. If that happens I have the potential to make about 5 to 10k more here than I do now. So I do not know what to do. Oh and the other position does not pay for mileage/wear and tear on your vehicle and yes there will be about 80-90% travel involved.
Do I:
Decline said job offer and stick it out here now that I am doing what I like.
Accept Job offer and learn some new abilities and loose ins for the 90 promo period.
Talk to current VP and ask for a raise or take said job offer.
Help me oh great interweb, I do no know what to do.
FYI: I have a wife and twin boys (17months) at home that I need to think of 1st.
