Yet Another food thread

I was at the grocery store the other day and I saw this little advertisement type thing in the meat dept. It was cooked ground hamburger, peppers, and onions in a biscuit pocket.

I thought about changing it up a bit and using chopped steak-umms (cheesesteak steak slices) with cheese, peppers and onions in a biscuit pocket. It certainly looks good but anyone every try it?

does it have a formal name?

If i make it, i'll try to remember to post with how it goes.

oh yeah, certainly not a healthy meal by any means, but i'm going by yum factor than health factor.
 
You can't lose with steak, cheese, peppers, and onions. I await your update.
 
tried it tonight. not as good as it looked/sounded...

i think it needed more cheese for one thing, and I'm not so sure the biscuit pocket works. maybe a tortilla or pizza type crust would be better.

That. There's pretty much no way to make that combo come out bad.

Please season your food. Salt and add pepper to your steak. Bland unseasoned food needs to be eradicated -- it's a plague. A tiny pinch of cayenne in the mix will give your biscuit stuffed monster some heat, elevating it from just a cheesteak in a biscuit to an actual experience.

Serve it with some bitter greens and a vinagrette and you should be in OK shape.

velveeta on some things is great! we keep it around for dips wich it is great for. But there is no way i would put it on a steak sandwich. get good cheese for taht.

velveeta and salsa makes a good dip. yumm

If that logic were played out, Julia Child and Bobby Flay would have "how to microwave" shows. Becoming a good cook (which means you eat better, for less, with ease) is a process of trial and error and learning. I say, fuck hot pockets (have you read the ingredients?) and fiddle with your original recipe and go from there.

My recommendation? Buy some NY strip or porterhouse, sear it but keep it rare, then slice it into strips. Keep it bloody at this point. Sautee the onions and peppers with light oil and seasoning. Add some spice, add the rare meat, sautee briefly to brown some and to preferred cooking method.

Making good biscuits isn't that hard. Get some decent biscuit flour (gold medal is OK) and the key is to have the mix lumpyish. Overmixing will make your biscuits spongy and way too caky. You want lumpy. Instead of small scoops, pour out a log. Bake until slightly golden brown. Remove. Cool, slice in half, butter, grill each side briefly to get some caramelization on the inside. Add grilled steak and Os & Ps, top with cheese, done.

And my recommendation for a bitter green salad with a vinagrette still stands.

If I had the steak here, I could whip this up in about 10 minutes. That's less time than driving to the store. Mind you, I'd skip the biscuit part and just use some french bread.

IMHO, I'd rather eat my sandwich than a azodicarbonamide pocket.
