Yet another Asian parent rant -- i shall remain calm she will not get to me

Mom: Always staying up late, that's why you keep getting sick
Me : Mom, i haven't been sick for the past 6-9 months, wtf are you talking about
Mom : And those allergies are because of your lack of sleep
Me : Look at the house ma, we had that black, fuzzy mold crap growing on our walls, it's this house
Mom : No, it's because you don't sleep enough, and no, it's not "allergies," it's just that you have a cold
Me : I'm not sick, and the doctor says it's allergies
Mom : American doctors are all the same, "allergy this," "allergy that."
Me : Whatever ma, i know when i'm sick, and i'm not sick.
Mom : ARE YOU GOING TO SLEEP YET?! IF YOU'RE LIVING IN THIS HOUSE, YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME. IF YOU DON'T, PACK UP YOUR CLOTHES AND GET OUT NOW!
Me : Whatever ma.

Just to let you guys know, i usually sleep at 11 pm, and wake up at 7 to go to school. I get more sleep than most kids my age. Today is a friday night. I don't have school, therefore i'll be staying up later than usual. Same for tomorrow, the day after, and the preceding day. This she cannot understand. Goddamn, right now i wish i did live on my own, i wouldn't have to put up with this bullshyt. Who else loves asian parents?

I'm glad I live in an apt. away from my mom. =)

I can cook for myself so I don't miss home cooked meals that much. Except Pho, my mom REFUSES to teach me how to cook that properly. Bummer.

What? that's not a good asian parent story. Here's how my cousin's dad is....(she is 15 btw)

You want to sleep over at Kim's house (I'm kim, i'm 23 and live in my own apartment and i'm her cousin mind you!)...do you know how old you are? "15"...Do you know what grade you are in..."9th grade" ....how many more years til you are in college "3"...When you are in college you can do whatever you want (NOT TRUE!)...tell kim to wait 3 more years...

basically whenever she wants to do anything his reply is for her to wait til college. she never gets to hang out with her friends. the only time she has a social life is when she has to work on a group project for school at somebody's house.

ohyeah and true asian parents don't let their daughters date until they are finished with school. and by school i mean college. !!!! and if they are not married by 1 year after college they get ontheir cases about finding a guy and think they will die alone if they dont' find someone quick as if it's THAT easy to find someone esp when u weren't allowed to date your whole life. hehe.

My gf is asian and her parents are JUST like this, you have no idea what we have gone through and they still bother her not to date me etc and that she should finish school before dating and think that she will just ruin her life by having a boyfriend even though she gets good grades and is already in college. The father hates me and has never said a word to me, just looks the other way. The mother pretends to like me, but then is a total ass when i'm not around.

We're both 20 btw.

Heh. Staying up late is definately overrated and sleep underrated. When I was in college I usually stayed up until like 3am and went to school at 8am or 9am. Most days I felt like my mind was a mess. I just graduated and most of my time is committed to making up for 4 years of missed sleep.

Oh, and asian parents will give you the same treatment no matter how old you are. My mom was nagging me about the same thing over christmas break.



 
I know this is random but that mold growing in your house can be pretty bad. You really want to try to get rid of it.

Grow up, get a job, get out of your parent's house, and do whatever you want.

The family culture is very strong. Is hard to explain but in most traditional families you are bonded to your parents forever. Of course if you move out you have more freedom, but I think most parents are reluctant to let their kids move out just for the sake of freedom and kids usually listen.
 
Look dude, just tell your moms that Dr. Snatchface says its allergies and to chill her beAt ass out. Secondly, start saving now for your own apartment. Thirdly I hate all korean parents - I was engaged to a Korean girl 2 years ago and her parents said they would disown her if she dated a white guy - without even meeting me. Xenophobix, bigatous pieces of excrement.
