So you want to better yourself and get some education? That should be encouraged! It should be deductible and not taxed, right?

WRONG! Thanks to ARRA Obama fucked over those that wish to be educated and improve themselves like the middle class and employed. I read directly from "2009 Tax Benefits for Higher Education" pamphlet with the accompanying 1098T tax form.

"<snip> Filers with incomes exceeding $80,000 ($160,000 joint) are ineligible for the deduction."

I'm sick and fucking tired of being told I/we make too much money, I'm not rich, I don't feel rich and I sure as fucking hell don't live rich. This is not a brag thread, this is after doing my future wife's taxes.

Umm.. There was ALWAYS an income limit on that deduction. Your nemesis Obama had nothing to do with that. The changes made last year in fact RAISED the limit:

"This new credit modifies the existing Hope Credit for tax years 2009 and 2010, making the Hope Credit available to a broader range of taxpayers, including many with higher incomes and those who owe no tax. It also adds required course materials to the list of qualifying expenses and allows the credit to be claimed for four postsecondary education years instead of two. Many of those eligible will qualify for the maximum annual credit of $2,500 per student. "

It was her money to begin with. She's being penalized for working AND getting a doctorate.

Obama must hold down the strongest, otherwise we cannot all have equal outcomes/compensation.

Supposedly Middle class starts at 51K now. Just found a calculator. So Yea 80k is definately middle class.

Remember Obama Said Millionaires start at 250K so I guess that is the upper class? Who knows! He's the class warfare Czar himself.

No, it was not her money. It was part of the taxes she, and everyone else, owes. You're just annoyed that you can't get a deduction that you couldn't have gotten last year, or the year before, or the year before, etc.. etc..

But in your warped universe, that's somehow Obama's fault.

Ok, well, despite you calling me a "fuck" for some immature reason, you're massively confusing the different aspects of the college credit and deductions available. If you're talking about the the above the line deduction, the ARRA didn't modify that at all. It only expanded the hope credit program.

But I really have no idea what you're even ranting about, and I expect you don't either.

This is definitely BS for Joint filers making 80K... that should be eligible for college deduction for sure.

But if you're making $160k joint, then yea, you need to get your head out of your ass and realize just what's more important. That big mortgage and BMW or your education. Sometimes it takes more than $160K to have it all, but $160K is plenty to make do with something modest and still afford a $40K/year education.

Yep, this has been the limit for deducting student-loan interest for some time. I second the nomination for ownage of the year. How did OP's deranged mind leap to "this is Obama's fault"? Then to have the audacity to calling more informed posters f*cks. What a moron.
