Please critique my rig: (I already have all the drives and the os)

BFG Geforce 7800 GTX - 600
DFI UT nF4 SLI-DR - 172
3200 Venice - 190
OCZ Value VX 1GB - 105
Case and PSU - ?

Total: ~1200

I'm not really sure what case I want yet. I want to keep the total of case and psu under 130, and the only thing I've seen is the Antec TX1050B w/500 watt">http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129158</a>, but I don't love the case. I like the Sonata II, but if I ever do sli (which is probably a 50% chance), I want those 34 amps. If sombody could recommend me a good case (no psu) for around 50 dollars, I think I'll buy either the enermax noisetaker 420 or 485.

With the dfi board, I'm not really sure, as I've not really looked at the sli boards much, and there are about three different dfi boards. Do they all have the good overclocking abillities like the ultra-d? What are their main differences?

With the graphics card, I may possibly buy from best buy (which I can't believe I'm considering), because they have a 10 dollars off every 100 dollars for up to 50 dollars deal, so I could get it for around 550.

CPU and memory I'm completly positive on, unless a san diego version of the 3200 comes out anytime soon, which I'm doubting will ever even happen.

I still have to save up for a good monitor now, so I'm considering either a 2005fpw or a good 20" crt.

I'm definetly not planning on buying anything from the last gen, I've been waiting since november to buy one of these cards. Now that the r520 is being pushed back until fall, I really don't want to wait for it.

How? The 3200 has a 10x multiplier. Did I miss somthing when we switched to venice? I thought most people felt that the 3200 was better.

Apparently not. :p

Yeah, it's another one of those "Will my 7800GTX play Pong at 640x480?" type deals. ;)

Why the SLI board if you're only buying one card? Will you be buying another later on? If not settle for the LanParty UT nF4-D and save $50.

There's a 50% chance that I will go sli, so I'd rather have the feature. I'm just not entirly sure what the differences between the three motherboards are, could sombody clarify?

Excellent build. However, I've decided that you simply are not cool enough to own a 7800GTX. I'll contact you later with shipping instructions so that I can take it off your hands.

No idea abouth the DFI boards.

Damnit Cheesetogo, I wanna warn you now before you start wondering where all your life savings went...

I'll give the gaming industry about two years to make games that require more than one 7800GTX. And by then, nVidia will have at least the 8000 series out. Think about it, by then, would you want to add another outdated 7800GTX or just go the next step?

Before everyone starts recommending to drop the "SLI" mobo.

Be aware of this difference: The SLI version will let you use the 8x pci-e slot for a disk controller but the UltraD won't.

This is taken from DFI's documentation, but has not been verified..

What about Oblivion IV, STALKER, Quake 4, Prey, and others? They should be out by late 2005/early 2006.

And by then the 7800 will be second gen and cost about $350-400, and unless you plunk down $1000 bucks on a 24"-30" monitor, the 6800 series cards will play the new games just as well.

The 7800 is purely a "look what I got" purchase. I decided on a 6600GT 8 months ago, because the 6800's where just ridiculously priced with the idea that I would upgrade in a couple of months when the prices came down. 8 months later and still no games put the hurt on my 6600GT, I get 100fps in HL2 at 1024 x 768 if I go to the highest res my monitor will support 1280 x 1024 I get around 80fps. In doom3 at max res with high settings it runs at Dooms max 60fps and never drops.

Spend half the price on a 6800GT. and with what you save get an X2 and enjoy the multitasking goodness and you will be prepared for multi-threaded games and when the 6800GT no longer plays games smoothly 2+ years, then upgrade to a new card then.

long debates... 10 mult supposed to be better... but i witnessed better OC results w/ 3000 than 3200 majority of times.... people will argue.. but there are many other people that'd say the same thing...
