Me: Please open Outlook Express.
Him: Ok
Me: You have it open now?
Him: Yes
Me: Go to Tools and left click on it.
Him: Ok
Me: Left click on accounts.
Him: Ok.
Me: What accounts do you have listed there, sir?
Him: Uh, I dont' know.
Me: What does it say under the heading "account?"
Him: Uh, I don't know my computer isn't on. Does it need to be on for me to get into Outlook Express?

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

LOL, but just think how much better you feel when you stop banging your head against the desk in frustration 🙂

"do you have your service tag?"
<dude starts reading off lots of letters and numbers>
"what are you reading me?"
"my product code"
"i can't use that, i need your service tag"

"do you have your order number?"
"order number or customer number?"
"order number"
"okay, my customer number is..."

Once a few years ago I got one that started out in a classic southern accent: "Mah name is Buford Jones and I got one of those NICs of yours.."

End users who know that one needs to turn on the computer are totally more dangerous to a help desk person's health though.

Hehehe,my saga of the dude who was "cleaning up" his system and deleted all those pesky files he found that were dated back from 1998 continues onward and is getting funnier by the minute 😀

I thought I was reading this thread, but then I realized my computer was off!!

Ahhh I got you all beat. I once setup a training in a room for people to use Groupwise mail.
Each admin brought their own laptop.. after they left there were 5 network cables on the desks with the entire network card and dongle still attached. They were pcmcia and they yanked the card out instead of unplugging it. I was like oh man that is bad. How sad.

Man,what did you do wrong in a past life to get assigned to the Training Dept? If there is a hell for Geeks I'm sure being assigned to End User ED has got to be it !

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, too. Except when the helpdesk has people call in sick (it's 70 degrees here today... LOTS of sick people), then I get to cover Help Desk calls. Especially if I don't have classes scheduled. Most of the time training isn't nearly as bad as answering phones. Calls like this are why I got out of tech support.

<---------- continues to bang head against said wall

Dude... my life is this way. We have a new piece of software called DeepFreeze. It basically locks the computer down so you can not save changes to a computer at all. We still get people who call and say they change their desktop everyday and it never stays or they saved a document and the next day it was gone.... we are like DUH!!!

eerrrrr users.

Yep, I have so much work I will never get caught up. My door has a sign on it that says

"I can only please one person per day, today is not your day, tomorrow does not look good either."

It is so true.

I can't even imagine the training session I'd have to endure if I put something like that up on my door. Sure would be nice, though.
