sounds ok if you like the car. You'll likely have to work on it quite a bit though.

102K miles is pretty high. IDK how much longer ti'll last before some major repairs, espically considering how so many americans dont like to do regular matinence on time or at all.

Holy crap, my buddy has that exact car (same year), and it's been NOTHING but headaches. Worst car of all time. I could go through all the things that have gone with it, but I'm tired and don't want to type that much.

The particular car you're looking at might be just fine though... so who knows?

Get a Honda Civic.

GM quality of that era wasn't very good, and with it already over 100K miles I'd be very wary of it.

I never keep a car past 100,000 miles. I think a lot of people are like me. My dad is a mechanic and my cars are serviced according to to the manual but American cars especially have a tendency of requring quite a bit of parts replaced after 100,000. Fuel pump, alternator, etc. They all just wear out at around that mileage.

It's funny you go from 90 to 100 thousand miles on the car and the value will drop 1500 bucks. I try to sell mine at about 80-85 thousand.

102k is NOTHING *if* it's a 3800 6 cylinder. I would be very wary of the 3100 - has/had numerous intake gasket leak issues.

I had an 87 Riviera with the smae motor that has 257k on it when I sold it. THe GM 3800 is one of the best motors ever made.

I have yet to have one fail (I've had 3-4) due to mechanical failure.

My aunt had one. Nothing but trouble. She takes care of her cars religiously (3,000 mile oil change, etc). The car's rear main seal went at something like 30,000 miles. It threw a rod around 50,000 miles. I wouldn't trust that car as far as I could throw it.

It might be a great engine, but that's only one part of the car. My mom's 1999 Malibu is a total POS. So far it's had leaking headers, failed rheostat for the blower control, some sort of failure of the A/C on/off control (not sure if that's fixed yet), both of the main front axle bearings died, and now the pivot bearings for the front struts are failing.
