Before all of you go out and get DirecTV know that DirecTV has been down rezzing the hdtv stream because they want to fit more channels per transponder. The quality has suffered on HBO and HDnet over the past month or so. I think they are supposed to run a demo where you get the channels for free, you might wanna watch it and make sure it doesnt suck. I know I will.

I've had HD for months now. The signal looks fine to me. I was watching ESPN HD this morning. I've already had mine turned on.

EDIT: Also DirecTV has 3 sats now. I know that 1 sat only has 1 HD channel on it. DirecTV is planning to move some HD channels over to the other two sats to spread the bandwidth out for better quality.

Sooooo....which HDTV receiver thingy should I go with if want to get HDTV programs from my DirectTV and local HDTV broadcasts?

TV is a Toshiba 50H82.

Hopefully you installed the HD capable dish that is required as well.

The receivers were around $800 last I checked a couple months ago, plus like $100 for the dish. 🙁

Wow where were you looking? I got my Samsung in December at Tweeters for under $500. I then called DirecTV and told them I was going to go to Dish unless they gave me free HD kit for my Sat. Well It turned out they sent me the upgrade kit and sent out an installer who gave me a new dish, and the triple LNB kit, so i have an extra kit in house if someone needs the 3rd LNB 😀

If I go through DTV for HD, I have to buy a few hundred $ receiver.

If I use Cablevision, I get the HD converter box for free...
