First of all hello first post!

Second of all on the darker side of my life I own a Radeon x700.

I have an Intel D915GAV Motherboard with a PCIe graphics slot. 1 gig of pc3200

I reformatted Windows (cause it had been about six months) and looked forward to the possiblity of the x700's problems to go away with the old OS installation.

So I reinstalled Win XP Prof back onto my 200GB SATA HDD and after applying all the proper updates from the Windows update site, I went to the Intel site for BIOS, chipset, RAID, e.t.c. Next it's on to ATI's driver page.

So I download the latest XP Catalyst Driver and Control Center for my Radeon x700 PCIe graphics card. Upon restarting (with my IBM P202 22inch monitor from 1999) as soon as I get to welcome screen constant flickering occurs. Blinking, whatever. When I look at the Task Manger under processes I see multiple occurances of cli.exe popping up and going away, sometimes 14 of them at a time! The problem stops when you close ati2evxx.exe which then closes the second instance of ati2evxx.exe.

This drove me up the wall. Nothing stops it. I used omega drivers and it still flickers. I have tried every setting, different monitors. If a method exists I have used it. I have my Hardware acceleration tab under troublshooting in my advanced display setting slid all the way to the second to last position so it disables all 3d draw and acceleration or whatever to stop flickering with ati's software running. That is not right. And if I shut down ati2evxx.exe the FPS in my games drops and everything runs horrible!

Anyone out there know any solution I haven't tried yet? I have tried everything. Different drivers, older drivers do nothing but impead performance. Looking for some help or someone who wants to know more about this. ATI's solution is to raise the refresh rate and the vote results shows it helped 41 out of 478 people.

Sorry so much for my first post but I can't even enjoy my PC. I have put much time into it and my AMD 2400 with 1.5GB of ram and a sapphire 9800 runs better then my main machine. sucks I am wondering if I should buy a new card, or wait and see if ATI fixes the issue. I haven't been able to use this PC since September for gaming or video.

Dude, last year when I had my radeon x700 for about 2 days, it had just the same problems!! I just returned it and got a 6600GT. That kept me happy until last month when I got my 7800GT.

Dude, you have 3 threads started on the exact same thing, can you remove the other 2.

i have had a x700 pro for over a year now and i've never had a single prob with it running 500/500.

did you try uninstalling drivers before installing new cat drivers? i know you formatted but windows might have stealth ninja installed something. i have no idea what else could be causing issues like this. it's possible you just bought a broken card to begin with or something.

Yeah, Quit starting new threads about the same issue. Blank out the ones you dont want and let them fall out of position.

So killing the "ati2evxx.exe" fixes the problem?

If so open up msconfig, under the services tab disable the ATI Hotkey poller. Restart computer. Report back here.

For the old farts out there. In my analogy, the X700 Pro card is a Chevy's Vega of the 70's. This card was doomed from the drawing board, IMO. It lasted three days in now my son's Dell 4700. It was overheating, loud, and in the 3rd day. It went blank, it DIED. It went DEAD!!!!!!
It has my vote for the worst g/c ever sold to the consumers. May be if we've got enough votes or signatures we can legally sue ATI for this pos.
Don't believe me, go to Dell forum-> Demension Video and see for yourself.

Ahh yes CLI.exe, I have many fun stories behind that process. Amazing job ATI does with their drivers ;)
