Yep, Steam does suck.

I heard, and saw, all the trash about how Steam is the worst application ever... well... I agree.

It keeps saying that my password is invalid, then every once in a while, it works... then it says crap about "That game is not available now"... wtf.... Not available!?!?! The server is up, and I have Counter-Strike installed.... why the hell is it not available. Then after waiting 12-15 minutes (seriously), CS finally launches and I get into my local server. About 10 minutes into the game, it crashes out to the desktop, and Steam apparently crashed and the stupid "WinXP problem encountered with Steam.exe" window is up...

Grrr.....

That is typical of the last 3 days that I have been trying to play Counter-Strike...

Steam was fine when not a lot of people knew about it... but when it was officially released... all hell broke loose.

Maybe Steam's not the one that is sucking...

Also, one of my friends keeps getting errors saying that he is banned from Counter-Strike for using hacks... WTF... if you get cought hacking, you are banned from ALL servers? That's crazy. BTW, he said he hasn't even played 1.6 yet... because he keeps getting that error each time he tries to.

well i had installed steam and was playing cs a few days ago but seeing this thread i decided to play it. i cant even join a game. sits there ar preparing counterstrike or whatever. sitting there right now matter of fact

download steam with CS cache built in, it will greatly minimize problems.

as for preparing to play CS message, it means that Steam is downloading files

I downloaded the Steam_CS.exe, or whatever it's called... the one that has CS 1.6 and Steam. As for "preparing to play CS message", maybe I should just wait on it and let it finish or something?

Thanks.

Runs fine here, I just DL'ed the 1.6-Steam (~350mMb) and installed it. Some people are saying this is just a 90 trial and you have to pay for it, anybody know the facts on this. That would suck if CS wasnt free anymore.

FreAk😀

yea i hate it also. sometimes, i'd just click the fcking exe and it takes 5 minutes to start up or doesnt at all. then it sometimes says "counter-strike is not available" at random times when it was fine 5 fcking minutes ago. it works 1 out of every 3 times i try to use... thats not good. fcking 1.5 + gamespy never failed me once...

ur xtreme lamer n00b at cs lol well at least ur friend is

dont be gay and cheat

if u do u get banned for a year (my best friend got banned from last june to this coming november) and you get banned from ALL secure servers, which I think is like every server

buy a new serial number from ebay and don't be a homocheater

i played CS 1.6b over the summer...and it was so much better than; now servers seem so sluggish....even w/ my sub 50 pings

Every time I try to run steam it goes to the 'updating steam' thing and then just disappears without doing anything. Is there a new steam exe thing I need to dl or what? I haven't been keeping up with all this stuff lately so I'm kinda out of the loop.

steam by valve is worse than the peter gabriel song of the same name.
if im forced to install steam to play hl2 single player.
i wont be buying it.

yes and i know, valve really cares/

I think maybe you should just have a "buy list" and that way you can throw everything else out.

Actually, I have one of each. Everything is "do not buy" by default. Very rarely does anything happen such as what HL2 did - move up to purchasing priority, and then back down.
