This was already suggested I think...but why not drill, insert a nuke, and explode it? Wouldn't this create more chambers for the gas/magma to escape to instead of UP?

This is why we need to live our lives to the fullest each day. You never know when your (or all of humanities) number will be called!
Quick someone ask Pat Robinson what's the reason so we can fix it.
No big deal, there have been multiple super erruptions around the world since humanity first rose up. We survived those, and we will survive the next one. Also people who live in the PNW should be safe as the prevailing winds will protect us.

This is doubtful. Back in the '90's when the Mississippi flooded the US had to Import certain types of Wheat because the Crop damage was pretty severe. That was just the areas near and around the Mississippi that were affected. Just imagine if everything East of Yellowstone suffers severe Crop Damage/Failure.
That said, the US probably has a couple years worth of Grains stored away, but that just delays the inevitable. It would likely be that clusters of People would be favored and they'd be located around makeshift Hydroponic and other similar Food production facilities which had access to Electricity. 10's of millions would likely be left out of the loop though as even a small glitch in Production could lead to starvation for those lucky enough to be selected to enter such a facility.
As I understand it though, a Super Volcano isn't just about a massive amount of Ash that blocks out the sun. It also is a massive blast that would send a wave through the Earths Crust as well wiping out everything for quite some distance. I'm not really sure how far that blast reaches, but Seattle might have a significant Earthquake as a result.
It probably wouldn't take long before the whole concept of Nationhood would be just a distant memory and there would be a return to City State. Resources would be very tight and the last thing on peoples minds would be supporting any organization beyond their Local level.

Yep! They'll owe us big time.Oh noes! Haiti will have to send US money!

Now you are catching on, I enacted this plan years ago.If this were true and we all really believed in this, most of us would quit our grinding jobs today and head to the beach.
Its highly doubtful we had to import any grains considering we grow and export about 50% of all of the worlds supply.

Maybe an advanced race will come here and save us.
I believe that they traced a major bottleneck in human ancestry to the last eruption. Last time it blew, we were only a couple dozen members short of being extinct. And, then, consider that our ancestors weren't even on the North American continent back then.
That was the second to the last one (75K years ago), it was much larger than any yellowstone has every done. The last one was around 25K years ago in New Zealand and was similar size to the ones done by Yellowstone. Though New Zealand is remote so that could have contributed to the lower affect.
We should drop some nukes into old faithful restart the rotation or something.
The advanced race actually put that volcano there many millions of years ago, in order to destroy us, so that they can land and repopulate with little resistance.
What type of eruption will occur if Yellowstone erupts again?
Yellowstone’s volcanic and hydrothermal history suggests the potential for various kinds of eruptions in the future. The likelihood of a certain type of eruption occurring in the future can be judged by how often eruptions have occurred in the past.
* The most likely type of eruption would not be volcanic but, rather, hydrothermal. This type of small, but still explosive eruption can occur from shallow reservoirs of steam or hot water rather than molten rock. These reservoirs are the sources of Yellowstone’s famous geysers, hot springs, and fumaroles. Such explosions could blast out shallow craters more than a kilometer wide; as has occurred in the northern Yellowstone Lake Basin, including Mary Bay and nearby Turbid Lake and Indian Pond, and in western Yellowstone National Park north of Old Faithful. Each of these craters was produced by steam blasts within the past few thousand years.
* The most likely type of volcanic eruption at Yellowstone would produce lava flows of either rhyolite or basalt; rhyolitic lava eruptions could also include explosive phases that might produce significant volumes of volcanic ash and pumice. Such eruptions could range in size from smaller than the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens through much larger than the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption.
* The least likely but worst-case volcanic eruption at Yellowstone would be another explosive caldera-forming eruption such as those that occurred 2.1 million, 1.3 million, and 640,000 years ago. However, the probability of such an eruption in any given century or millennium is exceedingly low- much lower than the smaller eruptions mentioned above.
