Interesting, you listed two high contact sports with very little protective gear.

Let's see him take a 120mph liner off the shin. A 70mph curveball that missed a little hurts. Yep, baseball is for pussies.

That's what those soccer players get for faking so many injuries.

this.

soccer's my favorite sport, but the players pussify it by taking dives and exaggerating injuries and cry bloody murder for getting tapped. you fucking fairy, get up and play the goddamn game.

i think taking dives should be a red card. it'll happen less often. either that or if they are down and act like they're in such agony, they need to either replace him for 15 minutes or take a yellow card.

time to get back to what soccer is about.

I'm thinking it's more likely he was on some kind of stimulant. Professional athletes shouldn't just have heart attacks on the field.

Or it could be like that Russian hockey player that the Rangers drafted that died a few years ago, he had a heart condition and was not supposed to be playing...

there are scores of heart defects that don't rear their heads until the very last second, often going unnoticed for someone's entire life. Not that it's very common, but it isn't unusual for a young athlete to keel over from an irregular heart beat, enlarged ventricle...all sorts of things. These type of defects can essentially affect anyone in the general population.

Pistol Pete. :(

Growing up playing Soccer in the US, I never saw many divers. It's a risky maneuver because if you just dive on the ground and the ref doesn't give a shit, your team is now playing a man down.

I do hate watching it happen in the professional leagues. But it seems almost over-represented there, you are more likely to witness a real injury than a fake injury in any actual game of soccer.

a few world cups ago, brazil hired an acting coach to teach their players how to sell a dive and get the foul (which is why it's hard for me to cheer for brazil, even though the past couple world cups, they've been extremely good with not taking dives).

i'm with you though... growing up playing soccer, we never dove or anything because we were too busy trying to win. none of my coaches ever encouraged it or anything. one time, one of my teammates did it during a game... the ref never caught it, but the coach did. he left him on the sidelines the next two games because of it.

i doubt that other countries are taught to dive... i think it's a professional thing because money and fame is on the line over games won and championships... if a dive can get someone a foul and help their team win, then they go ahead and do it. it's just bullshit because it's not a legit way to win.
