I bought their new album well over a month ago and I think its the best rock album I've heard in years! I know there was alot of talk about The Vines, and how they're suppose to "save" Rock & Roll, but honestly, after listening to these guys I wholeheartedly disgree. The YYYs are so original and so fresh sounding, I cannot help but think these guys are the ones that're suppose to save us from Hip Hop hell. Don't get me wrong, I actually like some Rap and Hip-Hop. But I just really miss the days of listening to Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice and Chains. I miss anticipating their new album releases. Unfortunately thats impossible now because all two of those bands have dead lead singers and the other band has disbanded. WTF! Yeah, I can pop in old albums and listen, but I'm lamenting. 😉

If you're just a passer-by in this thread and are looking for some great new music (that involves a guitar), I highly highly recommend the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and their new album "Fever to Tell". You will not be disappointed.

Not a fan. I tried, cause I heard they were supposed to be good, but I just can't sit through a full song of theirs.

What will save rock and roll is the proliferation of Indie artists. I can't help but feel this is aided by mp3 piracy. When music ceases to be profitable only those driven to create music will do so. Obviously this argument is fraught with hypocrisy... c'est la vie.

The YYY's have been scorned by the "1337" critics of the scene as being "Intentional" which is CRAP, it's good music. You should also pick up the Franz Ferdinand album, it's really good too.

They deffinitly have a different sound. They play a little hard/punk on some songs. Hrm, maybe its just me driving for something new and different. The entire album isnt an A+, but out of the 12 songs on the album, 10 of them I like.

A buddy of mine has recommened the same album. I'll make my way there for sure.

By the critics calling them "intentional", does that mean that they're trying to make music that they think would sell well or be popular?

Review

Can a band build an entire career, a legacy even, on a handful of EPs and a boundless torrent of press? How many party dresses need to take a beer bath before the Yeah Yeah Yeahs drop the rock icon pastiche and just play some music? Over and over again, they've been accused of empty posturing, wallowing in scrofulous, self-conscious "irony," disguising themselves Predator-style as the public conception of who they were supposed to be rather than who they actually are.

I bought the album and was underwhelmed. It felt like too much filler and Maps. Same thing with Franz Ferdinand, though I like it a little better. Best album I bought lately was The Essential Simon and Garfunkel 😀
 
From what i remember of the MTV movie awards, the lead singer wasn't very good!

(and she looked like Marilyn Manson! 😀isgust😉
 
While I don't think the Yeah Yeah Yeah's aren't bad from what they are, they're far from being original what so ever. They borrow alot of their sound from bands like The Stooges to trying to be Wendy O, (albeit a much more tastefull Wendy O). As far as Franz Ferdidand the same thing applies, heard their sound before, and heard it done better. Just my two cents.

Good band. That guitarist does good stuff and they have a stong sound. All their singles are great.

The Vines are one of the worst rock bands I've ever heard live (didn't pay for ticket of course). Who said they were going to save rock and roll? They have NO idea what they are talking about, and if a friend of mine said that I wouldn't say hello to him passing in the street. Main singer guy's dad is an exec for Sony Music. It is a corporate rock band.
