Although passing the driver's test is easy I think that a lot of old people would in fact not pass it. I know that many adults never check their blind spots, for instance. I would almost want it subjectively tested as well - ie, if the tester thinks that the testee is useless and pathetic, even though they seem to be able to pass the test on the objective marks, then they could fail them. I suppose you'd have to have the opportunity to appeal. And that should probably be for all drivers, not just old.

If you've got a 16 year old who looks absolutely horrified and jumpy behind the wheel or an old guy who is muttering about the war as he drives along both need to perhaps be failed.

Ehhhh... I'd rather have some old folks driving in circles than more young punks creating circles on my streets. I'm only 21 but I dispise these young aholes who think they're competitors in a nascar event.... ESPECIALLY the ones who do it in neighborhoods. What type of moron sits there and tries to lower the safety and property value or their own neighborhood?

Actually, 60 isn't very old. Every 2 years after 80 would be more like it. And I bet almost everyone would still pass. Except for the blind and the very confused, who obviously have more to worry about than driving.

I too feel your pain when you get in a hurry and get behind an older person . Hopefully you will age gracefully,have a really cool car and drive it around real slow,just too piss off the punks !!

Old people shouldn't be allowed to drive for the same reason young people can't, lapses in judgement. Only in some cases for old people, they can't help it. So if they can't help it, others shouldn't have to deal with it. I'm not saying take their independence away, but their family needs to step it up and take care of them.

while, unlike viper gts, i think younger people are much more annoying than older people, simply because there is more of them; I think old people should be required to retake the test, afterall roadtests are getting much stricter on younger people. Some of these old guys probably just walked in and bought their liscence without a test, and while they probably have become familiar with everything by now - they are no longer in the same state of mind they were before.

Actually I would definitely consider the teenage population to be more annoying than the elderly. Only six months ago I was a teenager, yet I despise my generation. In general, we are useless.

When a 16 year old gets his license, he sucks at driving. However, he improves as he gets older, and most people are fairly decent drivers by 20 or so.

When an old man starts to lose his ability to drive, it only gets WORSE as he gets older, and 5 years later he's likely to be a huge danger to the people around him.

I'll forever be proud of my Grandmother, she handed me the keys to her car one day when she was 70 and said to me that's it , I can no longer drive it.

There should be a mandatory Test at retirement age. I know other retirees that should not be driving and they refuse to stop driving.

Id rather see MANDATORY eye exams every year for all ages (some states have this at least at liscense renewal) and REAL SAFETY INSPECTIONS for all vehicles.

Some of the Junk on the road being driven at high speeds is really scary. OH, Yeah, do away with cell phones that work in a car while the engine is running also.

Yeah but statitics can be wrong also...For Example the 85 year old women who missed her exit on the 90-94 interstate...she proceeded to back up into 75 mph oncoming traffic....well to make a long story short she caused a horrific accident killing at least 25 people including herself.
