Yeah so I was robbed today

I was at the YMCA today to workout and I put my stuff in a locker and locked it. When I came back about 45 minutes later the lock was gone and my check card, cell phone, and about $50 were missing. It seems there was a guy doing community service that day and he was cleaning the lockers, but he left about 10 minutes before I found out. The lock was found in the trash can cut through with bolt cutters. Of course I cancelled my check card, and I put a hold on my phone. My question is what can you do with a stolen cell phone that doesn't work? Argh, I wish he would have just taken the cash and saved me the hassle.

Cliff notes:
Stuff stolen from locker
I'm pissed

Call the court or whoever sentenced the guy to community service. They'll have a name and DL#, and you can call the police. In fact, call the police RIGHT NOW. Why you dind't call them immediately is BEYOND ME. What'd you think you were going to do without the police's help?

The cell phone will likely be sold to a black-market dealer, who will use it as a clone phone. Whatever money they can get for that is enough for a crackhead.

Oops I didn't mention that. I told the manager of the YMCA, they had me fill out an incident report and they called the police. I waited around for a couple hours but the police hadn't shown up yet. They are gonna talk to them if they show up. They have some info for the guy, but it isn't guaranteed he did it, just likely.

never leave anything valuable in a gym locker. Leave the cash and phone in the car. Get a leash for you keys and put them around your neck. Leave a sweaty towel and a old jock strap for the would be locker thieves.

Funny you mention that because I NEVER bring my stuff into the gym. The only reason I did today was because I brought a shirt to change into so I had everything in my backpack. Talk about bad luck. 🙁

yes, technically to be "robbed" , you had to be there, like the guy put a gun in your face and took your stuff, then you were "robbed"

your stuff was stolen when you weren't present, so the guy is a theif , but he isn't a "robber"

Do this & see if you can find out his name & address - if so, call the police back & say you made a mistake; that you had simply misplaced the stuff. Because you know even if convicted he'd just get another little slap on the wrist. Take matters into your own hands; torture and kill the bastard

Words that I live by whenever I'm at the gym (except for the jock strap & sweaty socks 😛 ).

Right-o, we pay them to jail convicted murderers for an average of 8 years  Seriously, the system is FUBAR. And yeah I'm kidding about killing him, an impromptu amputation or two will suffice nicely 😉

you guys are so nit-picky.

Get the guys name that was doing community service.
Have the police run him (or find out wtf he was doing his community service for) and find out his record.
Have the gym pay for your things.

The gym is responsible for actions of employees, or criminals, in their place of business. If they knew the guy was doing community service they also should have known not to put him in a place that contains valuables if he wasn't being supervised.

What makes you think it was the guy doin community service!?
Without proof of him, you MIGHt as well say "There was a black guy in there 10 minutes ago! It was him!"

You can cancel the  if you have PROOF the guy on community service did it.

I never said it was the guy doing community service. I said it was LIKELY him.

whenever someone said they got "robbed," I expected he/she is facing a gun or a knife. OP just disappointed me because it was NOT a robbery.

I guess it is luckier to have your stuffs stolen when robbed.

And he never said the guy was black, either.

Hahahaha, that sucks man.
Were you the only one who had things missing that day? Do they know exactly who did it and what happened to that guy?
