Crap...I had to change mine. Re-sized this one below 7... I think I like it better... no?

This thing at the bottom has to go though, every time I get down there I pop up and scare me into thinking I'm turning into some kind o post whore.

It needs to be under 7 KB.

Disclaimer: Ryan Smith said I'm wrong and the limit is actually 25 KB

Now you tell me...................... I've been trying to upload my 50 kB avatar for the past 24 hours.

Well, my 24 kB avatar looked like complete ass scaled down to that size and it still wouldn't upload.

BEHOLD... my custom, self-drawn, 5.86 kB avatar... Is he high? Is he taking a dump? Who knows?

I converted my 14KB .jpg one to .gif and it actually went up 1KB so the idea that converting it to .gif will reduce file size ain't exactly foolproof..

Yeah, you may need to downscale/downsample it as well, especially if it's complex and thus not as compressible. JPEG can compress better (lossy) if it's a photo. GIF works well still for illustrations, as it's 256 colors and lossless.

I just use paint.net

When you save an image you get a quality slider with image size that makes it easy to guarantee that it's the right size

Thanks for this.

I used paint.net and was able to get it to the exact file size.

Hopefully that gets changed ASAP...7KB is just too constricting.

Yes, and since admins are apparently unawares it's likely a default restriction somewhere in the server software.
Easily fixed once they get to it.

Yeah, the lack of any error or messaging from the software makes me agree. Usually any forum or image hosting software has some pesky php, nginx/apache file or other type of server configuration file - or a few - that needs size limits increased manually. 7KB is kind of random - normally a default value is something like 2MB - so it may be a holdover or ghost from forums past. At worst it's an annoying to hunt down edit.

At least XenForo has support if they need it, which is the main reason we switched to vB from Fusetalk, if I remember correctly.
