Anyone have any quck fixes for this kind of thing?
Dip in ice cold water until it becomes numb.

Cover in pure honey, wrap a papaya leaf around it and bandage it.

Moreover, papaya leaf enzymes have been used to promote wound healing, and one study found they minimized the appearance of scar tissue in rabbits ( 15 , 16 ). Enzymes in papaya leaf can act as an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells, prevent acne, and potentially minimize the appearance of scars.

Ugh...nail injuries are the WORST. They hurt for days and your hand looks ugly for weeks. Condolences :(

I burned myself doing a small solder job yesterday, using a propane torch. Luckily I was wearing a pair of nitrile gloves. Without them it would have been much worse. It did hurt but right now I can't even tell you which finger it was on my left hand, so not so bad. Edit: On closer inspection I can see it was the top of the left index finger. No blister formed but the surface finger print is definitely flattened and there's a weird sensitivity when I stroke it.

The job was sick. I ordered alligator clip multimeter cables off Ebay (around $7) and the clips themselves are made of such thin metal that any force to speak of bends it so it won't open! I went to my local indy electronics store yesterday looking to buy decent alligator clips. I wasn't too surprised to see them closed (pandemic, and they always did have a closed day or two anyway, they are a small family owned affair, they've been there for 4+ decades), but it looks like they are closed permanently now. I was OMG, no!!! Only electronics supply place I knew of around here, Radio Shack having gone belly up and all. So, I went to plan B, put some solder on that tab so the clip wouldn't bend... Ouched the finger, but the clip works OK now.

Some 45 years ago or so I was working with some wood at home and ran a sliver up under my thumb nail pretty darn far. I had no medical insurance, no job, nothin'. I was poor! I went to local hospital and they carved open the nail from on top and removed the splinter, bandaged it up and sent me home. No complications. Don't remember what it cost me.

What was always fun back when I skied a lot was not clipping the nail on my big toe quite short enough so it got "impacted" from smashing into the inside-front of my ski boot.

It would almost always turn black and fall off shortly afterwards.... happened several times.

I skied one time only in my life. Being chicken I was super careful and as I recall didn't fall one time! Yeah, very gingerly. I was maybe 22 at the time, I'm guessing. Now, I'm a balls out skater, but I've skated the streets 30+ years. Took many years to get that confident on skates.
