61 in a 35. I wasn't even going that fast. 45-50...yeah (at a highway off ramp on Lowel Connector), i am guilty of doing that, but I am not guilty of 61.

ANyways...you think I can atleast lower the amount or atleast get it off insurance? The ticket is for $260....and he checked off that he esitmated the speed, he did not gun it....

I would fight it. And how did he estimate 61? That's kind of a random number.

No, it was one of those where the officer was standing outside next to his car with a radar gun....even though he checked off estimated.

If this was on a highway offramp, the speed limit signs are yellow which means they are SUGGESTED speeds and not mandatory limits. (which is why the signs do not say LIMIT on them)

Link to types of traffic signs

Check the shape and color of the sign and you may have an easy out. A friend of mine had a ticket in one of these advised speed areas and was able to get the ticket taken away.

I do not think that flies in MA.

Yikes, $260 is a lot. I got busted for 70 in a 55 a few months ago even though like you, pretty sure I was going 60-65 tops. I decided not to fight it because the cop seemed on some sort of power trip (what else is new), so he'd probably show up. Plus it was in Iowa and only $94, so I decided to just take the hit.

I'd say go for it, you might get a little leeway since he estimated your speed. I didn't know cops could do that..

I'm pretty sure the only speed limit signs you must follow are construction-zone related ones and the normal, white, rectangular ones.

A judge in Illinois ruled that if the sign does not say LIMIT on it then it is suggested.

I got a 74 in a 45 (on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, no traffic and right after the speedlimit dropped by 5 mph) on the "Verazano Bridge Approach". The cops had set up a speed trap after a slight, blind curve - 2 guys with radars standing out on the highway and 2 cars to pull people over. In the end, it cost me $550 between the $250 for the ticket and $300 in the "NYS Driver's Assessment Fee" since it was a 6-point moving violation.

He's right that the yellow signs aren't speed limits. But there could be a statutory speed limit for all unmarked ramps, just like there are speed limits for unmarked residential or rural roads.

26 over is a big difference from 15 over. Must appear in court vs $75 fine here.

Cops know the difference between Regulatory and Warning signs.

Just for info, the other two types of signs are Construction and Guide.

Another note.
While Warning signs are not speed limit signs, you can still be cited for excessive speed in you lose control and crash while going faster than the Warning signs posted speed.

Yeah. Just saying that it's a lot to pay, and the whole "estimation" business is kind of sketchy, so I would probably try to fight it.

truth, this happened to me. I got a ticket for wrecking my car when no one was around.

If he cannot prove your speed, fight it 100%.

Do not under any circumstances say you were going over the limit.

Many cops may know the difference. This does happen. I know because I was in the car with the guy when he got the ticket. I also went to court with him as a witness when the judge took the ticket away.

Yes the officer showed up. Yes the judge told him he was wrong.

This may vary by state, but I'm just sharing my personal experience with you guys because it may help this guy.

Bet the cop knows the difference now. Though how he could get through any kind of training and miss the most fundamental part of speed enforcement is beyond me.

That's what I thought. He looked pissed when he pulled me over.
