Wow that stinks man, btw I don't understand the whole law behind the cursing in public, I mean I assume its been taken to court now for constitutionality and probably upheld, but why...doesn't make sense to me, anyone have case info on this?

Well, first of all, even from only your side of the story, you cursed a cop. No matter how much you felt in the right, that is stupid, stupid, stupid. So stop whining.

I was a PI for 14 years. Looooong before then I knew that you NEVER, no matter the situation, backtalk a cop.

You know what the law is, Mill? The law is what the fvcking cop on the scene says it is, and, beyond that, the law is what the fvking Justice of the Peace or two bit judge says it is. Welcome to the adult world. One thing everyone and anyone intimately involved with the criminal justice system will tell you upfront: "There is no such thing as justice."

You made your first smart move here hiring a lawyer with local pull. That is the absolutely best thing you could have done, bar none. There is hope for you yet.

Btw, as an long time investigator, I know that your side of the story as told is at best 70% of the truth, at worst 30%, and everyone else in a position to legally judge you knows the same damn thing. You're not going to get over on them. They can see you coming from several furlongs away, and, trust me, they don't want to hear it and don't give one good goddamn about you.

You're a smart guy with a stupidly truculent attitude. Look in the mirror. The number one person to blame here in this situation is you. Hope you can eventually admit that because I wasn't kidding about the smart part.

Now you can come back in here and yell and posture and attack me, but, remember this. You're the one who covered himself in crap and I had nothing to do with it. I'm 53 and I have NEVER been arrested for anything, ever, and I have actually lived life on the street, as opposed to your suburban ninja fantasies.

So, good luck, man, but the minute you admit that you primarily brought all this on yourself is the first minute of the rest of your adult life.

Well, if it's just a bench warrant for FTA, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I see them cross my desk all the time at work. But good luck Mill, and hopefully the judge won't be too hard on you when you finally appear. You don't deserve this kinda crap.

Thanks for your opinion. BTW, if you read I didn't curse AT the cop.

OMG same sh*t happened to me over a speeding ticket in Charlotte!! I hired some cheap lawyer who had a good sounding name who sent me one of those solicitation letters (how do these fvckers find out when u get ticketed? Who rats us out to these scum?) Anyways, turns out that Mark Williams was not his real name...it was Marco Juan Ledeya or something and the guy was a recent immigrant who somehow passed the bar exam and he spoke very little English (oh and his secretary had no people skills.)

I already had paid the fee so I figured I'd just ride it out. He NEVER calls me, finally he tells me he got a continuance. Then another continuance. Then the court issues a continuance because he never showed up (they scheduled the case wrong...court's fault.) But then the lawyer never shows up. *I* showed up on both occasions even though I didn't have to--it was in the city I lived in so that was easy. Court eventually just dropped the case! Saving taxpayers money is more important than serving me justice for doing 10 over the limit I figure...I guess they agreed!

I'm not sure how this relates to Mill's lawyer being a deadbeat and not doing the job he was hired for legally. That was another thread.

Is it true the older you get the more you rant about your life and try to teach valuable lessons to youngins? ;)

Sorry to hear about it Mill. It's good to know you are going to do the right thing and turn yourself in.

Hope the judge is understanding!

Can't you sue the other lawyer for something? Like forcing you to take the day off and other punitive damages?

Not sure? I'll 'splain. In the whole chain of events, there were undoubtedly many points at which Mill could have acted differently -- with the guy at the bar, with the bartender, and finally with the cop -- such that he would never have needed a lawyer to begin with, no matter how much of an asshole each of the other aforementioned "actors" in this story were.

The "justice" system -- best to avoid it if you can.

As for your second point: "Speak up, sonny, and get your ball off my lawn!"

Pretty similar to the other thread actually, though here I'd have to admit that the law's going a bit too far here if Mill's being honest - which isn't a given. Can't say it's surprising or that I empathize though.

He was the original attorney we were going use. I say we, because my civil attorney got the referral for me. This attorney that I am retaining now was out of town. He's very reputable and is the magistrate and/or city attorney for about 10 municipalities in my county.

I've been trying to update this thread for a long ass time, but the forums have been blowing ass all day. I went in today and my attorney talked to one of the judges and he said he throw out the warrant if it is his case. My attorney is calling the actual judge for my case tomorrow and he is personal friends with her, so hopefully she will extend the same courtesy. Heh, my lawyer lives in my neighborhood and I never knew he did(he is pretty well known).

Geez, so the lesson of this thread is don't allow a lawyer to appear for you in court

Or - don't do things for which you get charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

(Just thought more of us trolls needed to weigh in.):)
