What a PITA that stupid thing is to configure. I have a sneaking suspicion that it Checkpoint overcomplicating things to sell their courses.

EDIT: Did you buy it yourself because those are not cheap by any stretch.

really? I think it's the easiest fw to setup...but maybe because we have boatloads of them depolyed across the enterprise.

company paid for it, but it's mine :D

I'm talking on the Checkpoint firewall side it's a PITA. The device itself works pretty well. Takes forever to boot up though.

EDIT: And it was setting it up with NG, not NGX.

did you go secureplatform or win/lin side?

secplat. is the easiest thing to setup with checkpoint's version of hardened OS with an easy installation wiz. Now, we used to install NG with linux and yes, that was a PITA. As soon as secplat came out for NG, we're able to install a firewall under 30 minutes. with it's backup/restore utility now, we can have a enterprise firewall up in under 5 minutes...gotta love it! :D
