So at work our $2000 firewall that acts as our gateway as well decided to stop working, and our backup didnt work to replace it either. So 4hrs later our network is running off of a $50 lynksis router. For some reason I just find that so comical.
Our network really isnt that big, about 50 people or so, hope that router can hold out untill I get a decent replacement.

Should work temporarily but definitely doesn't have the hardware to support the connections for 50 users. What internet connection does your work have? If a simple T1, then yeah it should handle fairly well though I would look for a replacement.

If I remember right, 50 is the exact limit of DHCP clients a linksys SOHO router can put out to :).

With DD-WRT you can up it to 253 :)

What network with 50 people actually uses the DHCP server in their gateway router? None that I can think of.

Wow...so security isn't much of a concern where you work, is it?

I would have my network down (no questions asked...not even by upper management) if my Firewall was down. Of course, I keep 24x7 4-Hour Response support on that type of equipment.

Hate to go so far off topic, but has anybody here acutally loaded up a linksys router with dd-wrt to 200+ clients? Is it usable? I've never gotten past 30.
