YAWRT: yet another work rant thread.

I work at a prominent restaurant/country club. I am a lifeguard outside, and a dishwasher. I like both jobs quite a bit (as long as the lifeguarding is outside). However, my rant is about my dishwashing job. The waitresses come into the kitchen with the dirty dishes, and put them through a window to a "staging area" where they are then put into dishwasher carts and sent through. When they put the dishes through, they clean them off, put the extra food into the trash disposal, put the glasses in the glass carts, put napkins in the laundtry basket, etc. Basically, we get the dishes and clean them. However, some of these damn waitresses just bring their whole damn tray to the window, and leave it, obviously expecting us to get their sh!t and clean up for them! So then, one of the dishwashers has to go all the way around out of the dishwashing terminal to the other side of the window, and clean up the sh!t for the waitresses. This doesnt happen much, most of the waitresses are responsible about it and know it is part of their job. But jesus, the ones who dont piss me off like nothing else. Especially on a busy night, it's not like the dishwashers have TIME to clean up for them.

i work washing dishes and i have to clean all the food off, throw all the trash (napkins, sugar packets etc) away, then wash them off and then send them through the machine and put them all away... and i get buckets of plates and cups etc all soaked in soda/water/melted icecream.. I have to scrub tuna casserole out of the metal pans and clean all the stove parts and cooking appartus... your complaints get no sympathy from me... yet i did get mad when the waitresses didnt take the damn cups out like they are supposed to

i also have to put the dishes away, scrub and clean cooking apparati and stove parts, and wash off the dishes themselves. sounds like the only difference between our jobs is that you have to clean the food off.

Well, it seems like you are expected to do those things, Glitchny, while guapo isn't, and so the restaurant/kitchen area is probably made so that things work smoothly while the dishwashers just wash the dishes.

I worked at the Cheesecake Factory for a year or so. Thankfully I was in the bakery, not a server.

The servers are a notoriously lazy and stupid bunch. They kept taking our supplies because a) they're too lazy to go to the proper station to get their own or b) their station is out and instead of restocking they come leech ours.
Also they screw up orders, feign ignorance and bitch when i gave them what they asked for. Or they ask for freebies, or favors, etc. Screw them.

Do the servers share a portion of the tips with you? or is that only between servers/busboys?
