I have an original Droid, I'm really not a power user, but I want a bigger display and 4G. Price doesn't matter much, but I if a $100 phone does the same as a $200 phone, I'll go with the cheaper option.

I play a few games here and there (freebies), browse the internet/Youtube when I'm bored, listen to music from time to time, etc. I have Directv, so I think they have an option for having TV on the go over 4G. I like the Droid X my coworker has, but I think that's been around for a while. I like the HD camcorder and the HDMI out.

So if you were me, what phone would you choose?

if you want 4g - you really only have 3 choices for a phone

Thunderbolt
Revolution
Charge

Strangely none of the three ship with Android 2.3

thunderbolt seems to have a lot of technical issues

I'd pick the Charge out of that group - screen is lovely

The Charge outsells the ThunderBolt 9:1.

I have a TB, it's awesome to have an LTE phone, if you're into rooting and custom ROMs, it's a great phone, but battery life is an issue, I use an extended battery, and it's pretty big.

Currently running Das BAMF gingerbread rom, and a leaked radio.

With the support of developers, I suspect the Thunderbolt will be very well sorted out in a few months, and equivalent to how much support the EVO has...

I was so impressed, I bought one and paid the ETF on my Sprint line... Using it now, tethering...

Just got my first smart phone, went with the thunderbolt. I LOVE it. 4G LTE, HUUUUGE screen, a ton of support from developers. I don't regret it in the least.

Of what's available now I would go with the charge. It's ugly as hell but the screen and battery life give it the edge over the thunderbolt. I would suggest waiting on the Bionic or SG2.

I don't understand what's so ugly about the Charge. Sure it's not the prettiest phone out there but I don't see how it's ugly.

I'm not in a huge hurry to upgrade. If something else is on the horizon that is worth waiting for, I'm ok with that.

Thanks for those suggestions.

No, they don't. Recall the Droid Eris. The Charge has the Droid label solely because the Bionic was delayed, delayed, and delayed again, then canceled, then retooled, and then delayed again. :p

Anandtech's recent review of the Charge's battery life place it nearly identical to the Thunderbolt's. So making your decision because the Charge gets a few more minutes of use is a poor choice.

Not sure where all these rumors of the TB having an array of technical issues keep coming up. They pop up, get shot down and debunked, and then pop up again. Like stomping on an ant hill.

Here's the final word, all of Verizon's 4G phones are using 2010 tech. Their unlimited data plans go away in less than 2 weeks. If you want unlimited data, buy which ever LTE phone is cheapest. Then flip it once the SGS2, Bionic, etc, actually appear.
