YAWoWT

Since I am at work right now and I can't get to the WoW forums I thought I would bring this up here. Was the way deposits work in the AH recently changed? Since the patch last Tuesday I have been double charged for all of my deposits on the items I have sold. For example, I placed a Soulkeeper on 24 hour auction for a buyout of 130g. It was boughtout within 3 hours of being auctioned. The deposit for 24 hours was 4.5g. After it sold I checked the mailbox only to find 125.5g there. So, not only did I not get back my 4.5g deposit but I was also charged an additional 4.5g. Essentially I was charged 9g for the deposit. I opened a ticket with the GMs and I received an email that the deposit was functioning correctly and this was not a bug.

Can anyone verify that the way deposits work was changed or if this is a bug?

Hmmm, I never really payed attention. I guess I have never really sold anything other than the Soulkeeper that fetched that much coin. How much % is it? I have never noticed before that I received less than what my buy-out price was. And I thought the deposit was returned if the product was purchased within the auction time allotted.

It's supposed to only "keep" your deposit if you don't sell the item, but give it back and take a percentage of the sale if you do sell it. I don't recall the exact number for the percentage, but perhaps it's more than the deposit would be.

And I thought the deposit was returned if the product was purchased within the auction time allotted.
It is returned. Someone on another forum I read posted how the AH deposit system works several months back. I don't remember specifics, but I think the percentage taken is more than the deposit you pay. Say you sell an item for 100 gold. If the deposit is 5 gold (5%), but the commission is 10% (10 gold), you'd only get 90 gold plus your 5 gold deposit back (so 95 gold).

If it doesn't sell you lose the deposit. If it does, you get the deposit and pay: 5% of the sale price in Ironforge and Orgrimmar, 15% in Gadgetzan.

Who uses the service charge? AH employees? donations to the orphans?

if i had to guess i'd say GMs! instead of working for dollars, they'd get paid hourly by gold.

It is to encourage you to sell to other players directly and thus be encouraged to interact with actuall people more.

Pwrkid (level 21) tells 1) General: "dat b 2 much d00d i nevur had dat much goald so no1 else duz"

Unattended selling in MMORPGs is great, it allows you to get what something's worth without the headaches.

i know what you mean, and you're not exaggerating neither. sometimes i wish i could attack members of my faction. but selling mid-high end items on /2 works out pretty well too.

Well, on my enchanter i always get this crap.

/2 mid lvl enchanter for hire.

someone whispers (person 1) me, "can you make my weapon glow?"
another person (2) whispers me, "can you make me sword glow?"
another person (3)whispers me, "can you make it glow?"
another person (4)whispers me, "can you make bow glow?"
another person (5)whispers me, "give glow plz"

I respond to all of them, "I can make any melee weapon glow red for the price of 50S"
Person 1, "WoW"
person 2, "No thanks, wayyyyyyyyy tooo high"
person 3, "I have a friend that does it for 35S"
person 4, "Ok, can you make a gun glow?"
person 5, "my guildy does it for free"

I respond the following ways:
I give not response to person 1 or 2
I tell person 3 to buy it from his friend
I tell person 4 that bows and guns are not melee weapons
i tell person 5 to get his guildy to do it

Person 3 responds, "He is not online right now"
person 4 says, "What? I will find it way glow someone else, bye"
person 5 responds, "He does not have the mats"

I do not respond to any of them after that, then person 3 says, "No reason to be a bitch about it, 30S is a FAIR price to both of us"

I tell person 3, "only i am losing money on it, i can sell the mats for more money than that at the AH"

person 3 responds, "all you enchanters are all f**** theives"

Person 3 gets added to /ignore, the best feature blizzard ever put in the game.

But after all is said and done, i sell about 7 enchants to other people in less than 10 minutes at the price of 50S.
