I don't know how they could make anything more difficult to make in way of a defense potion with the stonescale oil being a requirement but is there anything higher? if not... why doesn't this stuff go for more on the auction house?

it's more of a money maker to sell the eels on the auction house than it is to sell the potion...

little help here?

Well, there are consumables that offer more armor, but the thing is... the duration is much shorter. The Lesser/Greater Stoneshield Potions offer much more armor (2-5x as much), but they only last for 1.5 and 2.0 minutes respectively. The Elixir of Superior Defense offers the armor for an hour (similar to a flask, but you would lose it on death).

Next, items that're crafted from some of those luxury items (such as Stonescale Oil) do not necessarily cost as much as the item itself would sell for. Stonescale Oil is used in a lot of different items and because of that, the oil itself will sell for more than the elixir. Especially since the oils are used in other flasks like Titan that a lot of guilds would use oils for over the Elixir of Superior Defense.

You pretty much have to use stoneshield pots on patchwerk. That extra 2k armor can be like 300-400 less damage taken on a hateful strike, probably more once you factor in inspiration/ancestral healing.

That's something I've always had a bit of dislike over in WoW. Instead of testing skill, a lot of encounters tend to test your ability to farm. :/

Having the potions does not mean you will beat the encouter at all. It's a culmination of everything, potions, healing, dps that brings the end result.

I'm not referring to that encounter in particular. I mean a lot of the encounters in general. I remember when we first started doing Broodlord Lashlayer over a year ago and he required Flask of the Titans because you simply needed the health boost to stand up to the Mortal Strike (although this didn't happen during Broodlord v2 where Blizzard nerfed his bugged Mortal Strike). I can't remember which boss it is in Naxx, as I quit PVE a long time ago (over a year ago now, while in TAQ), but the boss requires tons of consumables to even beat. Definitely not a fan.

That's why all I do now is level characters to 60 for the purpose of understanding every last bit that I need to learn about how each class works. 'Cause no matter how much you've seen, it's so much different being at the helm of the class and seeing exactly how they interact with others.

it's pretty easy to farm stonescale eels, especially since they added the pools
