yawning question...

It seems that whenever someone yawns a whole mass of other people suddenly yawn as well. I might be feeling so awake one day, and about one minute after seeing someone yawn, I do as well. Why do we do this? Does this go back to cave-man times? Anyone know?

Massive CO2 emitted through lungs could be one idea. secondly its a psychosymatic ordeal, if one feels tired, your brain emulates the action.

When you yawn, you are equalizing the pressue in your head with that of the outside. Afterwards, you've totally changed the external pressure of your environment and everyone in the immediate vicinity must yawn to re-equalize their own internal pressure...

I yawn whenever I hear, read, or think the word. And, unlike Dullard's posted study, I cannot do a damn thing about it.
