YATT: Who makes the best diesel dually?

My father just asked me to research this and didn't give me any stipulations on price or what he was gonna use it for but I'll try to find out tomorrow. I thought I'd ask on here first to see what the "public" thinks. 😉

Only 3-choices out there.

The redesigned '06 Super Duty's by Ford I think have the best interior. I like the Cummins engine the best for towing. 610TQ & 325HP

Chevy is introducing its new trucks in '07 or '08 and I think the interiror shows it's age.

Dodge Ram 3500 SWB is my pick.

unless you're hauling a 60ft+ boat or RV thingy, having a double axle in the back is stupid.

I said that too, he just looked at me funny. 🙁

sucks,
no to mention that unless you're actually towing stuff, you will look like a complete hick when driving that thing.

Do you know what a dually is?

linkie

double axle meaning 4 tires, not two axles like a trator trailer

double axle means two axles
<---- still confused

IMO

double axle = dually
tandem axle = two axles in sequence

I guess I better throw my commercial drivers license and everything I ever learned about trucks away.

Got more info:

He's getting it for his brother so it will be used on a farm pulling trailers with horses, bails of hay, and farm equipment like tractors. He's leaning toward the Ford because of the 0% financing.

He needs to know the weight of all items it will tow.
The logical way is to determine what you will be towing then look at the GVWR and GCWR.

"Double" = "two"
"Axle" = "axle"

Therefore, "Double Axle" = "Two Axles".

I knew what you meant, and I think that everyone else did too, but the logic you're using to keep your terminology just doesn't work.

F-350, we own two F-250 turbo diesels and couldn't be happier with them... Bully dog performance package and they'll whitesmoke all 4 tires.

I'm pretty sure we're all on the same page,
all I've heard people refer to two-axle setups as tandems, rather than doubles.

well lets see, in the best case scenario you would get:
engine: dodge cummins
tranny: chevy allison
frame: ford

since we can't live in a perfect world, i say go with either of the first 2 - you're more likely to have trouble with your engine or tranny way before you have frame troubles, if you ever did (and since you can find old duallies still going strong from 15+ years ago, i think the frame is probably not too much of a problem!)
personally, dodge ram 3500 megacab dually is the way to go - plenty of room for anyone you want to bring and can haul anything as well

I think he needs to go drive them all and decide... because Ford/Chevy/Dodge ****** runs deep 😛... You're not going to get a balanced answer from anyone.

I've never been a Ford fan, in fact, I was such a Dodge "fanboi" most of my life, I refused to work on other people's Fords...Last year, I decided I wanted a new truck. I looked at the Dodges first...wasn't impressed. Not horrible, just not that great. My wife drug me to the Ford store, where I got to watch "the Truth About Trucks"...granted, it's pure sales propaganda, but the points they made, were big ones, and I looked at Fords with a more critical eye...I couldn't find exactly what I wanted in a truck, (or the ones that were close, came with jerky salesmen, so I passed on those as well) so she talked me into an 05 Expedition King Ranch, which more than meets my occasional towing needs. I still have my old POS 96 Dakota for the occasional trip to Home Depot or wherever, and I'm looking again this year for a new pick-up. I don't know if they still have that movie available, but if so, take the time to watch it...It may change your mind about trucks. It did me...
