YaTT: tipping the satellite dish installer

SandEagle

Lifer
ok, yes another tip thread......

i had a dude stop by and install a dish and do wiring for 2 rooms. took him about 5 hours to complete. i gave him hot tea, soda, cookies because it was cold and he went on the roof and all.

I still gave him $20 when he was done. anyone here do this type of work? do u get annoyed if u dont get tipped? and no, i dont tip my plumber.

You gave him drinks and snacks and still felt inclined to pay him extra for something that is clearly within his job description?

Shit, need any other work done?

You won't tip your plumber yet you'll tip the satellite guy?? Wow

Lots of you guys really take this tipping crap overboard.

Good news, you probably made that satellite guy's day. Bad news, he didn't expect any money and was probably quite happy you offered tea. You wasted $20.

i tip taxi drivers but not airplane pilots either. why are you bothering me?

Because that makes no sense at all. Why tip one and not the other? That's what I don't get with people tipping.

Oh and if you don't want to be bothered, don't post here. I just hope you don't make a thread about it too.

oh, sorry. for a second there, i had a rudeguy moment. continue with the flaming.

if i knew how much installers made maybe i wouldn't have tipped. i was under the impression they made like $12/hr or something.

I tip the people at McDonalds 🙂

Skilled people usually make pretty good money. The guys who install DSL for the local phone company make something like $27/hour last time I checked. Satellite people are probably about the same... in this area.

your suppose to tip the cable installer to give you extra channels, satellite guy cant do much. Mine flat out lied to me and said i couldnt split the signal from the receiver for a spare room to mirror other room haha (he didnt get a tip from me)

ya i agree 5 hours is a bit long, should take about 30-40 mins tops

It doesn't matter what someone makes. You are not there to supplement income. Do you tip people at Home Depot? Do you tip the kid who bags your groceries? Do you tip the mailman? Do you tip the guy who takes your trash? Do you tip the street sweeper? Do you tip your police and firemen? Do you tip the kid who get your shoes from the back of the building?

Like I said, I don't understand why people tip one and not the other. You tip for someone going above and beyond what their job description says for services rendered to you, not because they make minimum wage.

What's with Americans not being happy to just receive a wage for their work. You get paid for what you do then expect some extra cash in your pocket, just for doing your job.

Your entitlement mentality is crazy.

fffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. if they made that much i wouldve just give them a pat on the back instead.

now i'm having doubts. the guy was nice and all, but he did drill two holes since he miscalculated. now i have a fake wall plate next to another wall plate 🙄

He took 5 fucking hours, fucked shit up and you STILL FUCKING TIPPED HIM?

Geez. If I ever become a waiter and server you, remind me to piss in your soup and spill it on you.

Tipping is supposed to be about preferred service. Like if I want the bartender to always serve me first, I tip more to get priority. If you want to get in the club without waiting in line, you tip the bouncer.

It sounds like bribery but it's actually not. Giving extra money for something they were going to do anyway is called expedited service and it's legal.

If you're paying for expedited service (tipping) but you're not getting expedited service then you're just a retard.
edit. that's not supposed to be a shot at the OP. I just mean in general. OP is a good guy

you'll never be a waiter. you're probably the illegal dishwasher posting on ATOT on his 20 minute break via stolen wifi. oh yes, Numenorean, I know who you are.
